Big housing challenges require bold, evidence-based solutions.

We're excited to join with University of Cincinnati Real Estate Center and LISC Greater Cincinnati to launch the Housing Innovation Lab, a new regional initiative that will identify, test, and scale promising solutions to housing affordability challenges across Greater Cincinnati.

By bringing together researchers, developers, nonprofit leaders, financial institutions, and public-sector partners, the Lab will help move innovative ideas from concept to action.

The need to increase affordable housing stock is well established in Housing Our Future, the region's collaborative effort to identify solutions to Greater Cincinnati's housing challenges and increase access to safe, affordable housing. Building on that work, partners across sectors are now exploring new strategies that can move from ideas to implementation.

We're proud to be a partner in the Greater Cincinnati Housing Innovation Lab, a collaborative initiative bringing together research, industry expertise, philanthropy, and community development practitioners to test and advance practical housing solutions for our region.

As highlighted in this recent article, one area of focus is evaluating the potential for modular housing production in Greater Cincinnati. The Lab is also exploring innovative approaches to housing finance, preservation strategies, and expanded pathways to affordable homeownership.

We're grateful to join the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the University of Cincinnati, and many public, private, and community partners in this work. Together, we're working to create a stronger housing ecosystem that can deliver more affordable homes, preserve existing housing, and expand opportunity for residents across the region.

The Housing Innovation Lab will examine whether Cincinnati should build a modular housing plant and how to finance difficult-to-build projects.

Housing affordability is a national challenge — but its impact is deeply local.

In Greater Cincinnati, there is a shortage of nearly 55,000 affordable housing units.

That’s why LISC Greater Cincinnati is investing in local Community Development organizations like Price Hill Will, Inside Avondale, Working In Neighborhoods, The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington, Brighton Center, Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation, College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC), NEST - Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation, and more to help expand and preserve housing opportunities that meet the needs of our community.

LISC President and CEO Michael T. Pugh recently spoke with Comcast Newsmakers about what it will take to address housing affordability across the country — and why housing is fundamental to strong local economies.
