Can you believe it? We are just days away from the National Association of Black Journalists Region II Conference!

As you make your plans, here are just a few highlights:
✔ Informative panels for journalists at every level
✔ Resume + reel reviews with industry leaders (students, emerging journalists — and anyone who wants feedback!)
✔ Journalist safety training led by the International Women’s Media Foundation — a must in today’s evolving landscape

And we’re not stopping there…

⚾ Friday Night: NABJ Night at the Ballpark with the Columbus Clippers (food included), followed by a postgame mixer at Stories on High — one of the tallest open-air bar experiences in Columbus

🎶 Saturday Night: We close out the weekend at Blu Note, a Black-owned mansion turned venue, featuring live music, drinks and tapas

This is more than a conference — it’s an experience.

A message from our chapter President Assia Johnson:

Good evening, everyone,

I am writing to formally resign from my board role in GCABJ, effective August 1, 2025.

This decision was not made lightly. This organization and its work is critical and needed, especially in the current media climate. Being selected for this role is an incredible honor that I don't take for granted. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to grow professionally, build meaningful connections, and contribute to the GCABJ's mission.

However, I find that I must step away at this time as my top priorities are my safety, my family's health, and preparation for grad school. I'm passing the baton to Kyle Inskeep. He has done a phenomenal job leading our chapter in previous years and is the leader our chapter needs right now.

I remain deeply passionate about the work being done by the GCABJ and still plan to take part in and serve in future events as a member.

Sincerely,
Assia
