This is a lovely article that just came out in the Town Local Chula Vista Magazine edited by Jeff Bettger. It talks about my work in Tijuana as well as my campaign with the Pro Performing Arts Chula Vista group advocating for a world class performing arts center to be developed on the west side of Chula Vista! Friends, Our Easter mini donation matching campaign to help fund scholarships for kids to study at the La Esperanza Schools is almost over. We need your monthly help that will be matched! We still have 39 students who need scholarship support which will provide them with basic education integrated with a full arts program.
The good news is we have a donor who is willing to match monthly (or weekly) donations up to $75 per month if you sign up before the Easter holiday is over (April 13th) . You can donate as little as $12.50 per month and have it be doubled. Ongoing monthly donations help us a great deal to sustain the scholarship program and everyday needs of the La Esperanza schools which continue to change the lives of children living in adverse, economically depressed conditions.
A monthly donation of $26 on your part with provide a half scholarship (normally $52 per month and a monthly donation of $52 will provide a full scholarship. With everything that is going on in the world this is one opportunity to give hope and perspective.
You can donate via Zeffy or Paypal. With Zeffy, Remember to reduce the amount asked for by the Zeffy platform to "zero".

Dear Friends,
Today is Giving Tuesday! As you consider donations to made during the holidays, please remember The Americas Foundation! Your help at this time sustains the La Esperanza schools, More Art = Less Violence program, Christmas outreach and volunteer community development arts programs throughout the year.

We are a scratch and peck organization that puts donations directly to work where most needed. In truth this has been a very challenging time with the dollar devaluing 20%, inflation continuing and everyone's general preoccupation about what is going on at the national level. Yep! High anxiety!

The major project of the Americas Foundation is supporting the La Esperanza schools through scholarships. Every student receives at least a half scholarship, many receive a 2/3 scholarship and 20% a full scholarship to study basic education combined with a full arts program of choral and instrumental music, dance, nutritional ecology, English, computer science, plastic arts and sports. Parents are also involved with the design and production of two community arts festivals where the children demostrate their progress and learn about other cultures.

The Saturday "More Art = Less Violence" program is for teens ages 12 to 17. There are two morning sessions where they can choose to learn to play any orchestral instrument, play the guitar, dance ballet folclórico, play volleyball or participate in the youth orchestra. This year the Americas Foundation sponsored a special concert by all the "More Art" participants at the Social Security theater (IMSS) in Tijuana. We started this program because there was such a high incidence of young people being assassinated by other young people and m**h amphetamine use was rampant. We noticed that our students who had arts training found their way to becoming part of productive society were able to avoid these tragic situations.

Construction volunteering to provide art in public places has been an integral part of the Americas Foundation program of community development sin James Hubbell began volunteering 36 years ago. It provides locals with a sense of inclusion, community involvement and accomplishment! It's a fantastic example for all the kids as well! We have been extremely limited in funds to buy construction materials. This year's projects focused on creating beautiful, large community murals with brightly colored tiles that we scrounged for in overgrown canyon areas that suffered through the 2003 fires and/or were donated.

Community Christmas events like the Posada of the Colonia La Esperanza is another way the Americas Foundation build community and helps those struggling with financial deprivation find hope.

You have been wonderful in the past to support the work of the Americas Foundation and we are so happy to report that projects and programs are successful in their mission of giving direct aid, helping the border community to develop and giving talented children the opportunity to become educated and develop their talents as well as care about the community. However, our programs need financial support. We are making progress but we need your support to continue. Please consider sponsoring a scholarship for a child to study at the La Esperanza schools or provide support for the More Art = Less Violence program.

You can send donations to The Americas Foundation, PO Box 574, Chula Vista, CA 91912 and visit this page for more information,

Thank you once again for making the La Esperanza schools and our work possible. Please also let me know how you are doing.

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and holidays, Christine

Friends, Black Friday is coming up and it is a great time to help buy gifts for the "Posada of the Colonia La Esperanza" community event in Tijuana hosted by the Americas Foundation, where 450 people of all ages attend and enjoy homemade pizza, DJ music, a candy bag and a gift. We need everything on this list, especially Barbies and baby dolls as well as candy right now. This Amazon wish list will send gifts directly to us. You can also chose other items and send to The Americas Foundation, 898 2nd Ave., Chula Vista, CA 91911. Please include your name and address on the free gift note, so we know who the donation is coming from. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3GLVES002635T?ref_=wl_share PS Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed or plans to help!

Dear Friends,
Every year The Americas Foundation sponsors a Christmas party for the La Esperanza schools as well as a "Posada" for the Colonia La Esperanza. We ask for donations of presents for the students as well as members of the community. This year the "Posada of the Colonia La Esperanza" will be held on Sunday, December 21st. The Colonia/Community Christmas party features a DJ, pizza made by the teachers and school moms, a candy bag and a gift for people of all ages.

We are looking for Christmas presents and support for the Colonia Party. We usually spend around $700 on the pinatas, candy, pizza ingredients and DJ as well as $800 on extra presents, gift wrap, paper items and decorations. We need around 450 presents for men, women, children and even babies. If you would like to help us by donating a present or finding present donors, the present should be wrapped and labeled with the age and s*x that would be appropriate to the person receiving the present. For example, a soccer ball, would be wrapped and labeled, boy age 7-11. Girls do enjoy Barbies, baby dolls, etc.

We need gifts for teenagers and adults. Many of these adults are severely economically challenged and live with great scarcity. Cosmetics are a nice gift for women and Legos are popular as well as blue tooth speakers and sweaters. Please see suggestions below. We also have an Amazon list with suggestions for kids gifts and needed items. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3GLVES002635T?ref_=wl_share We need gifts and items by the end of November or early December to take them little by little across the border.

These are wonderful events that bring great happiness to the La Esperanza community and generate good will to the schools. For many, this will be their only present of the year. If you would like to donate to help defray the costs of the Christmas celebrations, pinatas, pizza ingredients, table cloths, DJ, cups, teacher dinner etc. visit this page, https://www.theamericasfoundation.org/support-us

If you would like to help provide Christmas gifts, candy volunteer or donate for Posada of the students or Colonia, Please contact Christine at [email protected]. We have a Amazon wish list that can be used purchase gifts that will be sent directly to us,
You can also bring presents for the Colonia to me or my house in Chula Vista, 898 Second Ave., Chula Vista, CA 91911. The Colonia Christmas party will be help Sunday, December 21st at the Colegio La Esperanza. Volunteers should arrive around 10 am. We also hope you can join us!

Christine
