Schools across Nepal have opened their doors for a new academic year. Children step into classrooms with dreams of a brighter future. Yet, in rural villages, poverty makes even basic schooling a daily struggle.

Karuna Care is walking alongside these families, supporting over 250 children in Nuwakot, a district deeply affected by trafficking and child vulnerability. With backpacks, stationery, uniforms, shoes, lunch support, and school fees, we’re helping kids stay in school and stay safe.

One principal shared: “Many families are so poor they cannot even afford a pair of school shoes.”

Among those helped is a Grade 8 girl living with her grandmother after her parents separated. She says: “Thank you Karuna Care for my school materials. Now I can go to school regularly.”

Her story reflects hundreds more—children whose futures are being restored through education.

Water for Children 💧

May 13, 2026, Lalitpur! One of the most effective ways to protect children from human trafficking and abuse is to ensure they are in school. When children regularly attend school, they are not only receiving an education but are also being cared for and protected while their parents are away working. However, for schools to provide a safe and supportive environment, they must have adequate infrastructure and basic facilities.

Unfortunately, many government schools in rural Nepal lack proper infrastructure and resources. Because of these limitations, many families are forced to migrate to cities in search of better opportunities and education for their children. Yet, once they arrive in urban areas, women and children often become vulnerable to trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and many other dangers.

For the past few years, Karuna Care has been serving in Nuwakot with the mission of preventing human trafficking and protecting women and children. Nuwakot is considered one of the districts highly affected by these issues. Currently, Karuna Care partners with two schools and supports more than 250 children by providing daily lunch, school supplies, uniforms, shoes, and necessary school fees. These children are fully sponsored so they can continue their education with dignity and hope.
At the same time, Karuna Care recognizes that strengthening the schools themselves is equally important. One of the major challenges faced by one of the partner schools was the lack of a proper water system. The school principal shared, “Because there is no water in the school, many children do not come regularly.”
Despite repeated requests to local authorities, the school had not received support. Karuna Care realized that the lack of clean water was not only affecting education but also increasing the vulnerability of children.

In response, Karuna Care constructed a 60,000-liter underground water tank and installed a complete water supply system for the school. This project will directly benefit around 100 children and help create a healthier, safer, and more welcoming learning environment. The school administration is hopeful that even more children will enroll and attend regularly in the coming year.
This project is more than providing water. It is about protecting children, strengthening families, empowering communities, and giving hope for a better future.

As we are working to stop human trafficking in a high trafficked district, our move has always been to educate children first. For this long term goal we have as always distributed School materials such as School Bags Copies, Pens etc, supporting their education for all the students of Binayak School, Nuwakot.

Recently our newly elected Prime Minister has given order to demolish the illegal settlements (Slums) living in the river banks of Kathmandu, But here, most of the people seems to not have enough time to evacuate and they say government has not allocated well enough for them to settle somewhere else.

We’ve been working specially in the Balkhu Slum Area since 2015, we found only way for them not to live illegally and settle with dignity was through education. We admitted their children to school. Now since their ‘home’ has been demolished where will they go now? Most say schools in their village are not good so they can't return to village due to their children’s education. What is the next step for them?
