What’s the most important part of dog racing? The dogs of course!

While teams ramp up for snow and sled events, we are bringing you some of the stars of the 2026 dryland season.


Next up is a canicross Alaska champion: Destiny Lytle's Vally

Vally took home the gold in the Dryland Derby Women’s Canicross (and finished first overall on day 2!). And he did it at 10 years old, take that Father Time. Vally has raced in Fur Rondy, many limited class races, and often helps junior mushers get to their first finish line in the sport. He’s described as having a kind temperament and a ton of heart. He gets to be a full time house dog (the best house dog there is according to Destiny).

Way to go Vally!

At CDMA we love dogs! (Ok maybe that’s obvious). We are highlighting the true superstars of our recently completed dryland racing season.

Next up: Frenzy

Frenzy won every 1-dog bikejor event he entered this season including becoming the Alaska Champion at the Dryland Derby. Owned by Annie Carrothers and Brett Carrothers, Frenzy is the youngest dog on their team. His favorite thing is running fast (whether that’s in harness or zooming laps around the yard). His temperament is described as exceptional, and he’s never once in his life had bad manners. A true gentleman and the perfect definition of a Good Boy!

As we wait for snow and our sled racing events, we wanted to highlight some of the true stars of our dryland season: the dogs!

First up is Phoenix from Kimberly Wells (he’s the black and tan more husky looking dog in the photo). He was a rescue at age 2, so he had minimal training and didn’t know much about being a sled dog when he came to Kim. He’s made it all the way from that to the winning leader of the Dryland Derby 4-dog rig team, and is an Alaska Champion!

Good boy, Phoenix.

(Fun fact: Phoenix's birthday is a palindrome: 12/2/21).

Race registration for the 2027 Solo Sweepstakes opens in 24 hours!

On 10/9 at 6 pm go to https://www.chugiakdogmushers.com/solo-sweepstakes.html and click on the "Register Here!" button.

If the form is open we are accepting entries. We will make a decision if and when to cap the number of entries, but if you are able to fill out and submit the form that means you are in the race.

Registration for the 2027 Solo Sweepstakes opens on Friday October 9th @ 6 pm.

Our 6-dog, 80 mile mid-distance race on the Beach Lake Trail System in Chugiak is scheduled for January 23, 2027.

There are some important changes related to registration this year:

- In past years we capped registration at 20 teams. We are expanding it this year. Our limitation is based around how many dog trucks we can park, but we usually get multiple teams operating out of one truck. For this reason: THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES WILL BE AT CDMA'S DISCRETION. Do not take this as a good reason to wait to sign up, in past years we reached 20 entries very quickly and had to create a waitlist. It is likely we will need to cut off entries at somewhere around 25.

- In the event of a withdrawal, a full refund of the entry fee will be offered up until 2 weeks before the start of the race. After that no refund is available.

- There will no longer be separate classes for juniors or adults. Mushers age 14 and up are eligible to compete. This means that junior mushers will be eligible for the purse and also means junior mushers must pay the full entry fee unlike before.

There will be a rabies shot clinic at the Knik bar on November 7th from noon until about 3 pm.

$12 per shot is a great deal for mushers!
