Food is not just culture. It’s infrastructure. 🍽️🏗️
Here’s why:
📊 Food businesses are high-multiplier assets

Do you know how much it costs to produce what you sell? Yesterday, we used a simple pancake 🥞 example.

Once we calculated the real cost of ingredients + labor, the result was clear:

👉 A stack of 3 pancakes costs $4.14 to produce

If you sell it for:

• $8.90 → ~53% gross margin 📈

• $4.14 → $0 gross profit ⚠️ (and likely losing money after other expenses)

That’s the difference between a sustainable business and a fragile one.

Many small business owners price based on:

• Competitors 👀

• What feels affordable

• What customers are used to pay 🤝

Instead of one thing: Cost 💸

Because if you don’t know your true COGS:

• You can’t price correctly ❌

• You can’t protect your margins

• Growth can quietly turn into loss 📉

Profitability starts at the unit level.

March is Women’s History Month 💪🏽✨

According to the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Small Business Administration, women own roughly 42% of all businesses nationally. Illinois closely mirrors this average and in Cook County, women represent nearly half of all sole proprietors.

Over the last decade, much of the growth in new business formation has been driven by women of color, a trend documented by the National Women's Business Council and the American Express State of Women-Owned Businesses Report 📈

Women-owned firms are also disproportionately represented in industries that anchor neighborhoods:

• Healthcare & social assistance

• Educational services & childcare 📚

• Retail 🛍️

• Food & hospitality 🍽️

• Personal care

At Greenwood Archer Capital, we see every day how access to fair capital and financial strategy directly impacts household stability, corridor vitality, and long-term wealth building💚
