THE CHICAGO HEATING ORDINANCE: Applies Sept 15 - June 1. Your landlord is required to keep your unit 68 degrees from 830am-10:30pm and 66 degrees from 10:30 pm to 8:30 am.

For the first time since Sept. 6, the seniors calling Garden House of Maywood Apartments home can turn on their faucets and get hot water in their 10-story building with more than 140 units.

"If it's not fixed in 24 hours, the tenant can either pay a reduced amount of rent, and the law says that the amount that they can reduce should reasonably reflect the diminished value of the unit due to the lack of hot water." -Philip Devon (MTO
