“It’s more than mental health, it’s community”
Mariah is a La Casa Norte Case Worker, a runner on Team LCN for the Chicago Marathon, and the creator of our new running club, Miles for Morale. Born and raised in Humboldt Park, La Casa Norte has always been right in her backyard. She and her cousin, Jason, whom she is running the marathon in honor of, always had a plan to work together for inner-city youth after seeing struggles their friends had gone through. Now, she gets to make that dream a reality, and she is honoring Jason every step and through every mile.

This month we had 14 volunteers from Bank of America, Suntory Global Spirits, and The Hispanic Federation join us at La Casa Norte for our 3rd quarter Volunteer Impact Day!

Together, these teams packed a generous 206 Meal Kits, 45 Hygiene kits, and assembled bidding paddles for the Silent Auction for our annual Gala Esperanza! But they didn't stop there; they even took time to design signs of encouragement for our Chicago Marathon Team!

What a night at Wrigley Field!

La Casa Norte was honored to be selected as the charitable recipient of the Chicago Cubs’ Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month Celebration. As part of the event, the Cubs donated a portion of proceeds from their special ticket offer to support our work with youth and families experiencing homelessness.

A huge thank you to the Chicago Cubs and Cubs Charities for recognizing La Casa Norte. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a memorable evening.

La Casa Norte was recently presented with a donation of $2,000 at the Listo!+ Illinois 2026 Golf Outing. Created by People's Gas's and North Shore Gas's Latino ERG, this Woodridge event featured 18 holes golf course and a lunch and dinner in support of multiple non -profit organizations. Other organizations honored include Humboldt Park Health Foundation and The Boys and Girls Club.

We are so grateful to People's Gas and North Shore Gas for their continued support of our mission to provide housing and services to youth and families throughout Chicago.

La Casa Norte is now officially a CityKey Delegate Agency 🎉 This means we can support community members in need of a government issued IDs.

With a CityKey ID, our clients will have an easier time:
✨Enrolling their kids or themselves in school
✨ Scheduling medical visits
✨Accessing prescriptions discounts - a much needed benefit since many clients have lost Medicaid benefits

We have hosted CityKey events at La Casa Norte in partnership with the Chicago City Clerk's office in the past, but now with this official designation, we are hiring two new full time employees to staff the workshops and print the IDs on site.

We will also be enrolling new businesses as partners to give discounts and host workshops at other organizations, allowing us to expand our reach and meet our community's need.

We are pleased to announce this year's Keynote Speaker is Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

His initiatives to support youth employment, bring youth voices to decision making spaces, and create safe spaces for youth to gather and explore new interests all remind youth like the ones we serve that they are the future leaders of this city.

Recently, Mayor Johnson joined us at our North Hotel groundbreaking, where he met with our youth and reminded them:

“You deserve to feel safe. You deserve to be able to plan for your future. You deserve to be able to build a life in the city of Chicago that’s rooted in stability and opportunity."

Today, La Casa Norte, ALMA Chicago Equality Illinois The UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy Illcf - Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation, and community members gathered for an important conversation about the findings of the Latine Homelessness Report and the disproportionate impact of homelessness on Latine LGBTQ+ youth.

The Latine Homelessness in Illinois: Structural Drivers of Inequality report contains critical data that will serve advocacy efforts, but what resonated most deeply were the stories behind the numbers.

We heard about Latine LGBTQ+ young people who felt they had to hide their sexual orientation or gender identity — hiding parts of who they are simply to secure housing, remain housed, or feel safer in unstable and dangerous living situations. Something which we all agree is simply unacceptable.

The conversation also connected these local experiences to national policy trends and data showing similar disparities for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.

State Senator Omar Aquino and State Representative Lilian Jiménez shared what is happening at the state level and the work still ahead. Addressing these inequities will require continued coalition-building, advocacy, investment, and action from all of us to remove the barriers that have made LGBTQ+ Latine youth more vulnerable to homelessness.
