Over the past few years, our community has shown up powerfully to stand behind a simple truth: HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT.

What a celebration! 🎉 At our 10th Annual Education Luncheon, 18 incredible youth were recognized for their dedication and pursuit of higher education. Our community really showed UP for them.

Thank you to everyone who attended, cheered them on, and gave so generously. Because of you, our Education Fund is 10 years strong and growing.

We are proud to announce Jacquez T. Luckes as this year's Gregory Maire Leadership Award honoree at La Casa Norte's 10th Annual Education Luncheon.

As a young man experiencing housing insecurity in Chicago, Jacquez held onto a vision he'd carried since fifth grade. Through hard work and determination, he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science and founded J.L. Majestic Funeral Service, making dignified, affordable funeral care accessible to every family.

We are honored to have been a part of his support system along the way. The rest? That was all Jacquez. Join us as we celebrate him and our 18 award recipients.

Hope for Homes Day 2026 is growing!

We’re excited to share that 25 organizations have already joined this year’s statewide day of action supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness across Illinois. Now, we’re working toward our goal of 40+ participating organizations by July 16, 2026.

Scholar highlight 🎓: Meet Ronald

Ronald is passionate about education and was previously a geology teacher in his home country. He's been working to get his credentials back so that he can return to the classroom. We are so happy to celebrate him and inspired by his passion! Join us at our Education Luncheon. (Link in bio)

Ronald became a client of La Casa Norte through our Illinois Welcoming Center program, which provides case management and support services to different communities. He met our team while at Truman College, where he is currently enrolled.

Meet one of our scholarship award recipients, Deva. She is a star student at Malcom X. College.

She maintains a 3.5 GPA and is part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Here's what her case manager, Madison, had to say about her:

"Deva has worked hard to be in the position she is in. She has continued to strive for greatness...despite encountering barriers along her path. Her passion lies in the health care field, since she has always been drawn to helping others."

These incredible young people are clients of La Casa Norte who are taking the next step in their career journeys — some pursuing advanced degrees, others jumpstarting careers through technical and vocational programs. Each one represents the power of what's possible when youth facing homelessness are given the support they deserve!

Last weekend, La Casa Norte had the privilege of joining the Rotary Club of Wilmette's annual Hope Walk for the Homeless alongside fellow Rotary Clubs of Winnetka-Northfield, Skokie Valley, and Evanston Lighthouse.

It was a meaningful morning, walking in support of our unhoused neighbors and connecting with longtime partners who have championed our mission for years. Events like these are a powerful reminder that ending youth and family homelessness requires sustained community commitment, and we are grateful to have advocates who show up time and time again.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Wilmette and all participating clubs for continuing to invest in solutions for those who need it most.

5 has graduated. 🎓✨

Friday's Workforce Development Program graduation was pure joy, pride, and the kind of moments that remind us exactly why this work matters!

Every graduate took the stage to share a speech, a project, and their story. Young people who entered our 13-week program uncertain of what came next are leaving with skills, community, and confidence.

Some are stepping into industry-specific training programs. Others are making meaningful career transitions. All of them are proof of what becomes possible when young people are truly seen and supported.

Congratulations to Cohort 5. You've shown us, and yourselves, what is possible. 💛
