Christ the King Jesuit College Prep claims a tradition of successful education as a Catholic High School. As a member of the Cristo Rey Network, Christ the King makes possible the dream of a quality and affordable education for students whose families could not otherwise afford the tuition charged by private schools. Students earn two-thirds of their tuition, gaining valuable life-changing skills and experience through jobs at Chicago area corporations, law firms, banks, hospitals, and non-profit organizations.

At CTK’s 15th annual National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony yesterday, 18 new members were accepted into this prestigious group. All of the selected students have demonstrated the core NHS values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character during their time at CTK. As part of the ceremony, the new members signed the NHS register book and received their NHS membership pin. The 14 returning NHS members welcomed in the new inductees, including lighting of candles led by the NHS Executive Board – Jakayla ‘27, President, Surinity ’27, Vice President, TaNiyla ‘27, Secretary, and Jaden ‘27, Treasurer.

Thank you to the NHS faculty advisors, Ms. Maggie Deady and Mrs. Jen Risley. Congratulations to all new and returning NHS members and their families on this honor!

Last Thursday, CTK’s juniors and seniors took part in our fall College Exploration Day. This experience provides students with the opportunity to visit colleges which align with their interests, goals, and academic profiles. In addition, schools are selected as strong options for our students based on campus culture, financial aid offered, and other characteristic that will support the success of first-generation college students.

This year’s visit options were to: Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago, Augustana College - Illinois, Concordia University, Dominican University, Eastern Illinois University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Loyola University Chicago, Northwestern University, and Saint Xavier University. The students’ experience included campus tours, admissions/financial aid/academics sessions, and interactions with current students, including a few Gladiator alums.

Thank you to CTK’s College Counseling Department team and faculty chaperones for helping to set up visit experiences that will help our students make more informed decisions about their college futures.

CTK’s Homecoming week wraps up today with a pep rally at the end of the school day and two big games later tonight. The Lady Gladiators flag football team kicks things off against Intrinsic at 5 pm, followed by the Gladiator football team taking on Aurora Christian at 7 pm. Both games are at Serpico Field at 900 25th Avenue in Melrose Park. If you purchase a ticket for the flag football game, you can use that same ticket for the football game! Come out to cheer on the Gladiators!

CTK was represented at the HBCU College & Career Fair at Soldier Field on September 11th. Eleven CTK seniors enjoyed connecting with representatives from the different HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) from across the country at the event. Each student also received three tickets to the HBCU Classic Football game between Lincoln University (PA) and Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn about HBCU options all in one place.

Several CTK students, faculty, and staff members braved the rain last Saturday to participate in the Austin P.O.W.E.R. 5K hosted by the Austin African American Business Network Association - AAABNA. Special shoutout to top CTK runners, Emely ’28, Javeon ’29, and Mr. David Linhares, Spanish teacher.

Congratulations to our top scholars who were honored at last Friday’s Academic Awards ceremony. At CTK, we intentionally recognize Honor Roll students from the previous school year early in the current year to provide our newest students with a model for hard work and strong classroom performance. Special recognition went to a growing list of 18 CTK President Scholars - Jaden ‘27, Jakayla ‘27, Jermaine ’27, Surinity ’27 Tamara ‘27, Brooklyn ’28, Charielle ’28. Faith ’28, Judson ’28, Mya ’28, Raynard ’28. Riley ’28, Taylor ’28, Brandon ‘29, Josiah ;29, Marshon ’29, Nycolle ’29, and Syerra ’29 – all for achieving a 4.0 or above GPA for both the fall and spring semesters!

In addition to academics, awards were presented for outstanding performance in the Corporate Work Study Program, standardized testing scores, service, and attendance & behavior. Kudos to all!

The CTK community gathered last Friday for the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the traditional spiritual start of the year for all Jesuit schools. Led by Fr. Jack McLinden, SJ, Mrs. Cheryl Cattledge, Director of Campus Ministry, and the CTK student Peer Ministers, the Mass centered on a theme of “Be the Light!” The Mass was enlivened by the voices of Mr. Alonzo Berry and the sophomore choir, as well as a praise dance & dramatization performance by the Peer Ministers. Students were encouraged to go out in the world to share their light to help spread peace, love, and hope.

The day ended with our annual Gladiatorpalooza pep rally featuring performances by CTK’s majorettes, cheer squad, and drumline, followed by a BBQ lunch in our courtyard. It was a fun day and a great way to kickoff our school year. Go Gladiators!

CTK’s 16th Annual RISE UP fundraiser, hosted by our Auxiliary Board, is in 2 weeks on Thursday, September 17th from 6 to 9pm. Join us at Pilot Project Brewing in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood for a fun night featuring a variety of craft beers, w**e, and non-alcoholic beverages, plus tasty sandwiches and appetizers from their scratch kitchen. The event will also feature several exclusive raffle prizes like Hawks tickets, restaurant gift cards, and custom artwork.

RISE UP proceeds will help to support CTK’s college counseling and alumni support programs. Our Class of 2026 was the 15th consecutive graduating class to achieve 100% college acceptance.

After last school year’s successful Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program introduction, the CTK Corporate Work Study CNA program has expanded to include ten students from the Class of 2028. The new class of CNA candidates includes Abrielle ’28, Anijah ’28, Ariyah ’28, Brooklyn ’28, Charielle ’28, Harmoni ’28, Kylee ’28, Raven ’28, Shalom ’28, and Takarah ’28.

Yesterday was their first day of Wednesday classes at Valparaiso University’s downtown Chicago campus. They officially began their 120-hour journey of instruction, labs, and clinicals required in their pursuit of CNA certification! Best of luck to the 10 students!
