Last week, CASL's own Melody Legge traded her staff badge for a caregiver's role and joined Memory Cafe at Garfield Park Conservatory alongside her mum, who's living with Alzheimer's. A tornado warning hit mid-visit — but calm hands, gentle breathing exercises, and a vanilla plant kept the day going. Read her story on what it's like to experience Memory Cafe as a daughter, not just a colleague: https://casl.org/more-than-a-memory-experiencing-memory-cafe-as-a-caregiver

Choosing a preschool is one of the biggest decisions you'll make for your child. 🏫💛

We put together 10 things every family should look for — safety, teacher training, learning through play, small class sizes, healthy meals, outdoor time, communication, and support for every child's needs.

We were honored to welcome Chicago Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd Ward) and Ald. Nicole Lee (11th Ward) to CASL last week for a tour of our building and a conversation about the services we provide to families in Chinatown, Bridgeport, and McKinley Park — and to all in the greater Chicago area who need them. We also discussed our plans for the Community Hub, a major development that will meet and expand our capacity to serve families for decades to come. Thank you, Ald. Dowell and Ald. Lee, for your time and continued support of our community.

CASL shows up in the community. This past month, CASL Health's Carlos and Ruby attended SHARE Network's brain health symposium — and Yinan, CASL's Caregiver Support Services Coordinator, teamed up with SHARE Network to share the resources and services CASL offers.

Grateful for partners working to advance brain health awareness and access. 🧠

This year, CASL didn't just show up to advocacy work — we outpaced every goal we set. 10 community events instead of 5. 39 government officials and organizations engaging with us instead of 3. Nine internal workshops instead of three.

From standing with Senator Durbin in support of Chicago's immigrant families, to helping pass Chicago's Data Disaggregation Bill requiring the city to track outcomes across 15+ Asian ethnic groups, to testifying at Chicago's Budget Hearing and traveling to Springfield for State Advocacy Day — this was a year of turning community voices into policy change.

None of it happens without the people who show up, testify, and share their stories. Read the full recap — casl.org/newsroom

CASL is saddened by the passing of Raymond Chin, a former Governing Board Member, Advisory Board Member, and one of the people most responsible for the CASL you see today.

Ray helped secure the land and vision behind Tan Court and our Senior Housing building, projects that continue to serve families across Chicago's Chinatown and beyond. He believed that when there is a vision with purpose, giving becomes contagious, and he spent decades proving it through his own example.

We send our deepest condolences to Eileen Chin, our Board Chair, and the entire Chin family. Ray's legacy lives on in the community he helped build.
