Theresa Mah, currently the Policy Consultant for CBCAC, will be leaving her position in order to work in the office of Governor Pat Quinn. Theresa was recently appointed Senior Policy Advisor and Liaison to the Asian American Community in Illinois. Her last day in the office will be Tuesday, March 5th.

CBCAC is also happy to announce that Huilan (Ellen) Jin will be joining our staff part-time as Outreach Coordinator. Huilan is a graduate of the Masters in Public Administration Program at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Originally from Dongbei, China, Huilan graduated from law school in Shanghai before coming to study in the United States. Huilan brings many skills and interests that are a great fit with the work that CBCAC is doing, in particular, our work this year on creating a Community Vision Plan for the Chinatown area.

Proud to have been a part of this amazing campaign: http://bit.ly/11cUJaw Licenses for ALL!

Today the Illlinois House of Representatives, by a 65-46 vote, passed SB 957, which will enable undocumented immigrant motorists to get driver’s licenses. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights has issued the following statement:

01/08/2013

Today has been a landmark day: An ordinance to acquire land for a new Chinatown Library passed unanimously out of committee and will go before City Council for a vote next Thursday (10am).

Also, state legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to have driver's licenses passed in the Illinois House (65-46) and will be signed into law by the Governor very soon!
