Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago, an affiliate of Advancing Justice, has a mission to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, by utilizing education, research, and coalition building. Specifically, Advancing Justice-Chicago works to empower the Asian American community by:

Increasing public understanding about Asian American communities,

Advocating for policies that promote social, economic, educational and political equity of the community as a whole,

Encouraging active civic participation through education and advocating for equal rights, and

Working in partnership with and supporting like-minded organizations and individuals to build positive interracial and inter-ethnic relations.

Congratulations to Advancing Justice | Chicago's Executive Director Grace Pai for being named to Crain's Chicago Business 40 Under 40 Class of 2026! 🎉

Under Grace's leadership, Advancing Justice | Chicago has secured key wins for AAPI communities in recent years, including passing the TEAACH Act (2021), which requires Asian American history to be taught in all public schools, and the Language Equity and Access Act (2024), which requires state agencies to remove language barriers for Illinois' growing immigrant community.

It's time for A Just Chi's October General Meeting with Free Press Action on Wednesday, October 21st from 6-7:30pm over Zoom! Free Press Action will join us for a teach-in about Solidarity Over Surveillance: a hub for individuals, communities and organizations to join the fight against corporate and government-sponsored surveillance.

They're fighting to:

- Stop data brokers from selling our most sensitive information to law enforcement;
- Protect dissent, privacy and anonymity in an age of AI-powered surveillance;
- Empower people to use open-records requests to expose their local and state governments’ surveillance partnerships;
- Challenge the government’s weaponization of domestic-terrorism powers; and
- Fight the inevitability of AI everywhere.

If you miss the online voter registration deadline, you still have options to register and vote in the midterm! You can register to vote or update your voter registration at all Early Voting sites, including 51 sites open as Vote Centers on Election Day. You will need to bring two forms of ID, one with your current address.

Early voting has begun in Downtown Chicago! Any registered voter in Chicago can vote at the New Downtown Voting Supersite (137 S. State St.) and CBOE Offices (6th Floor of 69 W. Washington St).

Early voters may choose to vote in one of 12 languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Polish, Korean, Tagalog, Gujarati, Urdu, Arabic, Ukrainian, and Russian.

It's , and we're sharing a powerful testimony from Huang Dengxijian, or Wongtai, Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community- CBCAC's community outreach coordinator.

After living in the United States for over 30 years, Wongtai says, "What makes me most proud is that, through my own efforts, I became a U.S. citizen! Now I can vote in elections! No longer do I have to passively wait for fate to bring me opportunities; instead, I can actively use my vote to voice my concerns and fight for the rights I deserve. I have always actively encouraged my family and friends to participate in voting.

Since becoming a naturalized citizen, I have cherished this right to vote immensely. Not only do I vote in every election myself, but I have also served as a bilingual poll worker on election day and as an election observer, visiting various community polling stations to ensure that all operations were conducted fairly and in accordance with the law. When I discovered that a polling station in a predominantly Chinese neighborhood had not made bilingual ballots available, I inquired with the staff on site and learned that the bilingual ballots were still locked away. After my reminder, the Chinese-English bilingual ballots were placed in a visible location, allowing Chinese residents who needed them to exercise their rightful access to ballots in their native language and to choose their preferred candidates.”

On September 26th, Asian American Midwest Progressives and Advancing Justice | Chicago gathered to raise our voices at our 2026 Member Assembly! 📣 It was a day of building relationships, deepening our collective understanding of power and strategy, and getting energized for our upcoming work and campaigns! 🔥

Special thank you to Christian Aldana for kicking us off with some powerful spoken word and to Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth - The 48th Ward, Alderman Matt Martin - 47th Ward, and State Senator Ram Villivalam for attending our elected officials section to answer questions, provide key updates on legislation that helps our communities, and reaffirm their commitments to working with the Asian American community.

This year, we had:

💥15 volunteer leaders help plan the event!

Every election matters, so make your voice heard in the November 3rd midterm election!

There are many options in Illinois to cast your ballot. Pick your own adventure and make your plan to vote:
- Register to vote / check your voter registration to make sure it’s up-to-date!
- Decide whether you want to Vote by Mail, Vote Early, or Vote on Election Day
- Mark the key dates for your voting method – when to return your completed ballot, which day you are voting early, or what time on Election Day you will vote!
- Save the 888-API-VOTE (888-274-8683) nonpartisan hotline for any voting questions you may have! Assistance is available in English and 9 Asian languages.
