We are heartbroken by the passing of Rick Garcia, a visionary civil rights leader, movement builder, and cherished friend of ALMA Chicago. Rick didn’t just fight for LGBTQ+ rights; he changed the legal and political landscape so our communities could live with dignity, safety, and power. His legacy demands more than remembrance; it demands action. We honor Rick by continuing the work: advancing protections, defending hard-won rights, and refusing to be silent as LGBTQ+ people are targeted across this country. May his courage guide us forward. May his work live on through ours.

On World AIDS Day, we honor our community’s resilience by choosing action over silence. HIV remains a pressing reality for our communities, especially Black and Latinx men, and confronting it requires consistent vigilance, access to care, and collective responsibility.
Prioritize your health today: get tested, explore preventative options like PrEP, and connect with local HIV services that can support you or someone you love. Our strength is in knowing our status, protecting one another, and refusing to let stigma stand in the way of life-saving care.
