🍯✨ Vinegar & Honey: Reclaiming Joy and Healing the Healers Through Culturally Responsive Spiritual Care

Grateful for the opportunity to share this work at the 2026 ACPE Conference in Phoenix, Arizona! 💛

Spiritual care givers spend their lives holding space for others’ pain, grief, trauma, and hope. But who holds space for the healers? We cannot continue to pour into others without also tending to our own spirits.

Culturally responsive spiritual care reminds us that healing happens when people are seen, affirmed, and cared for in the fullness of who they are—their culture, their truth, and their humanity.

This year, the Community Chaplain of Bishop Anderson House has delivered this presentation to more than 400 caregivers across the country! That represents more than 400 opportunities to encourage those who care for others to reclaim joy, honor their own humanity, and experience healing themselves.

Because the people who care for everyone else deserve care, too. And when we care for the healers, we strengthen the communities they serve. 🌱

Today I had the honor of serving as community chaplain with Faith Over Fear, leading a session on somatic breathwork for justice and movement leaders and workers. 🌿

Those of us doing this work carry so much in our bodies: the stress, the grief, the long hours, the weight of what our communities face. We breathed together, grounded ourselves, and practiced a few simple tools to settle our nervous systems, with calming scents to help us slow down.

I was reminded that caring for ourselves isn't a break from the work. It is the work. Regulated bodies build sustainable movements. 💛

Everyone left with a card to carry these practices into hard meetings, tough calls and long days. Thank you to everyone who showed up and breathed with me.
