You don’t have to currently be a PA to answer. What’s the kindest thing another crew member did for you when you were a PA?

Sometimes the smallest acts of solidarity are the things people remember years later.

There’s a hundred little things that keep the day moving and prevent everything from falling apart.

Most crew members can point to at least one task that seems small until it doesn’t get done.

What’s something PAs do every day that would shut down production if they stopped doing it?

Every PA has a story that makes the rest of the crew say, “They asked you to do what?”

Driving exhausted after because they won’t give you a hotel.
Working in extreme weather conditions.
Lockups in completely unsafe locations.
Getting sent into situations nobody should be sent into alone.

A lot of unsafe work becomes “normal” on set because PAs are expected to say yes to everything.

What is the most unsafe thing you have ever been asked to do as a PA?

Feels like the rest of the crew often doesn’t know how little we’re paid compared to them. Or that we don’t get the same meal penalties. What are some things you wish the rest of the crew knew about being a PA?

Sleeping in your car.
Watching the sun come up on your drive home after already being on set all night. Blasting the AC to stay awake on a drive home. We’ve heard over 24 hours once. How many hours from start to wrap have you worked as a PA?

Drop your rate in the comments. We’ve been hearing more and more from PAs that rates have been going down. As productions tighten their belts they go after non union workers first.

It starts with a few coworkers having honest conversations about what needs to change.
If people on your set are already talking about the same problems, you are probably further along than you think.

DM it’s a lot easier than you’d think.

Winning a union election is not the finish line.

Rank-and-file organizing is what actually moves employers effectively. DM to get started organizing the PAs on your set.

The minimum wage exists because workers organized for it.

Before The Fair Labor Standards Act, employers could legally pay people next to nothing and work them as long as they wanted. Workers fought to change that, even while being told it was impossible, unrealistic, or bad for business.

That history matters for PAs too. Every protection workers have today started with people deciding the status quo was unacceptable.

The labor movement was never built by one voice alone. Women have always been leaders of the fight, organizing workplaces, demanding fair wages, standing on picket lines, and pushing for safer conditions for every worker who came after them. Their work helped secure rights that many people now take for granted.

For production assistants, that history matters. Women in production have helped shape this industry and this movement through leadership, resilience, and solidarity.
