Last Sunday, while carrying out his usual activities denouncing poor governance in the Youpwè area, Jacques Bertrand Mang was allegedly assaulted and had his mobile phone broken.

He had vowed that the uniformed officer he holds responsible for the incident would pay for the damage. On Tuesday, he went to the Youpwè police station, where the officer is assigned, to present his side of the story. Instead, he was arrested and transferred to the Judicial Police headquarters in Bonanjo. From there, an order was issued to bring him before the public prosecutor.

This evening, the activist and politician was remanded in custody at New Bell Central Prison.
