Against The Stream / Dharma Punx Chicago Against Hatred Against Greed Against Delusion AGAINST THE STREAM!!!! Welcome! All participants are invited to share their thoughts and ideas.

I started this page with the intention of creating a weekly meditation group inspired by the teachings of Noah Levine, American Buddhist teacher, counselor, author of "Dharma Punx: A Memoir", "Against the Stream: A Buddhist Manual for Spiritual Revolutionaries" and founder of the Against The Stream Buddhist Meditation Society in California. My vision for the group:
a nontraditional/peer-facilitate

d group, meaning there is no teacher, no guru, no hierarchy, no dogma, no preaching. The meeting is about an hour long and consists of some mindfulness meditation then group discussion on a reading or podcast about an aspect of Buddhism.

**ALL PEOPLE ARE WELCOME!!!** Regardless of meditation experience, religious/spiritual beliefs (or lack there of), race, ethnicity, s*x, s*xual orientation, gender identity/presentation, politics, HIV status, age, ability, financial status...and anything else. "The Buddha said his path to awakening was one of rebellion – a subversive path that is against greed, against hatred, and against delusion. It is a path of radical, engaged transformation, a path of finding freedom and spending the rest of our lives giving it away. It is a path that goes Against the Stream." - Noah Levine

Illinois Locations for July 17 Good Trouble rallies
UUANI, UUs for Social Justice and dozens of other organizations are uniting for 40 Illinois events Thursday in the Good Trouble Lives On national day of action.

This response to unprecedented attacks on our civil and human rights is a reminder that in America, the power lies with the people. Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is a call for peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

Authoritarianism thrives when people are afraid, divided, and demobilized. That’s why we’re joining partners nationwide to reject authoritarian politics and reclaim a democracy where all belong, all vote, and all thrive.

*NEW PRACTICE GROUP NEWS*
Free Radicals is a new monthly online community practice space I have created specifically with my U.K friends in mind.

I was so thrilled to reconnect with my community of friends in the U.K again this Spring, and touched by the generosity of practice, I have created a monthly online practice space available for those in the U.K time zone (and elsewhere) to sit and practice with me, in community.

Self-care is so important to me because it helps me understand what I need.

Sometimes self-care is misunderstood, partly because of its proximity to self-indulgence but also, because self-care means I must negotiate doing my own work instead of making others do my work for me.

Authentic self-care also makes it more possible for us to do the work of benefiting others, especially the communities we identify with.

May this space and the practices we share together be of benefit to all beings, seen and unseen, born and unborn, for collective liberation.

I look forward to practicing with you.
