The 1st Ward is part of the competitive program to determine who (city or private) collects recycling more effectively. As a resident of the 1st ward, I'll let you know if there's a noticeable change from my perspective (~narni)

There are now twenty Free Green Cans around Ward 1, the first neighborhood where they will operate.

These dual purpose recycling/trash containers and their collection are not paid for by tax dollars. Free Green Can, a Chicago-based private company, pays entirely for their installation, maintenance and collection by selling advertising space on the can to family-friendly, eco-forward Chicago businesses.
