Next up in our Rock Rewind Alumni Spotlight- Everett!

Everett first attended camp in 2015 and played both guitar and drums. After they graduated, they went on to volunteer for camp as an instrument instructor and band coach. They first joined WeR!C staff as a Gear Coordinator and are now serving as Program Coordinator!

Outside of We Rock! Chicago, Ev has been stage managing at Thalia Hall as well as running their own DIY shows.

In their free time, they enjoy cooking, crafting, watching King of the Hill, and playing music.

Everett has been an amazing presence at camp and a great role model to our campers. We are so thrilled they have continued to be involved in camp for the past 10+ years!

Rock Rewind Alum Spotlight on Stella!

Stella first became involved with We Rock! Chicago as a camper and has gone on to be a volunteer after graduating from camp. She began at 8 years old and played bass every year of camp. As a volunteer, Stella has helped to teach bass classes, lead workshops, and coach bands.

Stella is currently in cosmetology school locally at Truman College and has been cutting hair.

We are so glad Stella has remained involved with WeR!C. As a former camper, she has been a great role model to the next generation of rockers!

Empower youth through music by volunteering for We Rock! Chicago camp this summer! Camp week roles are open to women, trans, and gender expansive folks who are 17+.

Camp week positions include counselors, roadies, band coaches, instrument instructors, workshop leaders, & more! No musical experience is required.

Volunteer financial aid is available and stipends to BIPOC, trans, and disabled folks are prioritized.

Our next Rock Rewind Alum Spotlight is MK!

MK is a former camper and has continued to be involved in camp after graduating. They began going to camp in 2012 when they were 8 years old and played guitar their entire time as a camper. As a volunteer they have taught bass classes and coached bands and have also led screen printing and zine making workshops.

MK has been working locally at a print shop and has continued making music both as a DJ and through playing with their friends.

It has been great to have MK remain involved in camp after graduating to mentor and inspire the next generation of WeR!C campers!

Next up in our Rock Rewind Alum Spotlight Series- Madisson!

We are so thrilled to have Madisson return as a volunteer in recent years after a few years away. We have really enjoyed watching her as she mentors the next generation of rockers!

Madisson started out in our program in 2015 at 10 years old. Her first session she followed our DJ track but went on to play guitar for the rest of her time at camp.

After graduating from camp, Madisson has continued playing and writing music with plans to learn new instruments.

Madisson always brings a great energy and provides a positive influence for our campers to look up to. We are so glad to have her!

Are you interested in joining us at camp this summer but don’t have a ton of availability? Lead a workshop! We have 60 minute (AM) blocks and 90 minute (PM) blocks which are a great way to get involved with limited availability. In the past our workshop topics have included disability justice, zine making, drag, BIPOC women and trans artists in music, drag, and so much more!

We are also looking for bands (with majority women and/or trans members) and artists to donate a performance at the end of each camp day. These performances allow our campers to experience all different genres and see the possibilities in music-making!

Our next auction item highlight is an incredible amp that was used by Courtney Barnett during her Friday night set at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival in 2019 that was signed by members of Wilco, Courtney Barnett, Jonathan Richman and Tommy Larkin, members of Tortoise, Buck Meek of Big Theif, Peter Buck and Mike Mills of REM, funnyman John Hodgman, members of the Feelies, CUP, Ohmme (now called Finom), Mdou Moctar, Julian Lage, members of the Autumn Defense, members of the Story Pirates, members of the Minus Five, Skywayman, Cate Le Bon and her band.
