Pride month is a celebration of courage, identity, and love. It's also a call to action.

IFT is committed to supporting our LGBTQIA+ members, students, families and communities every day.

We know that strong schools and workplaces are built on respect, safety, and belonging. Everyone deserves to work in an environment where they can show up as their full, authentic self. Every student deserves to learn in a space where they are seen, affirmed, and protected.

Pride began as a protest: a legacy reminds us that progress is never guaranteed. Rather, it’s built through solidarity, collective action, and through the unwavering belief that everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

This month and always, we stand united in that belief.

Illinois has one of the lowest numbers of state workers per capita in the country, and communities are feeling it.

At the same time, lawmakers are advancing megaproject tax breaks that let corporations pay less—while public services go underfunded.

With real revenue, we can rebuild the workforce, ensure efficient services, and strengthen the safety nets our communities depend on.

IFT members from across Illinois came together for a powerful Lobby Day. We met with lawmakers, rallied with our coalition, and made it clear that students and communities must come before corporate tax breaks.

We delivered backpacks to lawmakers that served as reminders of what students are missing when funding isn't adequate, and how we can raise revenue to fill the gaps. (Spoiler alert - it's taxing the ultra wealthy!)
