HPNC Remembrance of Barbara Flynn Currie
We at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC) would like to honor the life and legacy of Barbara Flynn Currie, a devoted public servant and a steadfast champion of our community.
For decades, Representative Currie served the people of Illinois with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to equity and opportunity. Her leadership helped shape policies that strengthened families, expanded access to education, and uplifted neighborhoods like Hyde Park across our state.
At Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, we are especially grateful for Ms. Currie’s enduring public and personal support of our organization. She understood the vital role that community organizations play in nurturing young people and families, and she consistently stood with us—advocating, encouraging, and investing in the work we do. In fact, she was hugely instrumental in helping to get HPNC’s gym constructed in the 1980s.
Barbara Flynn Currie’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the stronger, more connected community she helped build. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were inspired by her remarkable life of service.
