Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose unwavering fight for racial equality helped lay the foundations for social change and social justice. In our commitment to holding these values at the forefront of the change we aim to make and see in our criminal legal system and beyond, we march on in the fight for freedom knowing that it will come to fruition. ⚖️🛣️🌟

Happy New Year from our Road 2 Reentry team! 🎉

We want to take a moment to thank everyone who’s supported us so far, through a follow, by sharing our mission, through your time and efforts, and by donating. Creating and running a nonprofit is quite a feat, and we recognize the immense work, dedication, and responsibility it takes to do so.

We’ve been hard at work coordinating projects to implement into the new year, including, most recently, new partnerships to facilitate employment and mental health services for our clients. 🌟

This time of year can be both challenging and exciting, particularly for those on their reentry journeys. We’ve got lots of goals for this new year: one of them is to bring our clients together more often and build a stronger community and networks of post-incarceration support among our friends who share similar journeys of discovering themselves and the world after freedom from wrongful conviction.

Your support has meant the world to us, helping make the road to reentry a bit smoother for our clients, who are at the center of what we do.

Check out our website to learn more, and consider donating (links in bio) to help keep our reentry work going. And don’t forget to share and follow to get updates on what we’re up to! 🛣️ 💪🏼

We’re so grateful to the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Chicago Bulls for hosting Exoneration Project, Loevy + Loevy, and R2R for a night out with our clients (right to left in the first pic) Demond Weston, Joseph Janke, and Frankie Benitez at yesterday’s game vs. the Nuggets! 🏀

Combined, Demond, Joseph, and Frankie lost over 66 years in the criminal legal system for their wrongful convictions.

We’re excited to have not only spent a fun night out with them but to also have raised greater awareness about wrongful convictions in our own backyard of Chicago through an opportunity like this! While we’re hard at work freeing, exonerating, and helping our clients in their transitions on the outside, opportunities like these allow us to bring our community together and celebrate the strides they’ve made, and will continue to make, toward . ⚖️🛣️🌟

As we reflect on our impact as an organization thus far, we’re grateful to our community partners who have supported R2R clients on their journeys. In partnership with the Exoneration Project, we’ve connected with numerous people and institutions to help our clients learn about and secure the services and resources they need to regain their lives after wrongful conviction and years to decades of wrongful incarceration.

For this year’s Wrongful Conviction Day, Kennedy-King College, Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, and EDDR Corp came out to offer our clients resources and services around adult education and vocational programs, employment, as well as child support and family services.

Your support helps us make these resources available and accessible to our clients and allows us to continue building pipelines of post-incarceration assistance for our freed and exonerated community. These connections not only help us spread greater awareness about the need for reentry assistance where wrongful convictions happen, but also fosters camaraderie among our local communities to create a more just world for folks who are coming home and in need of support on the outside.

With a few hours left of Giving Tuesday, consider and spreading the word about R2R and our mission to help our freed and exonerated community get the support they need on their road to reentry. ⚖️💫

Road 2 Reentry is housed in Chicago, which is consistently referred to as the “wrongful conviction capital” or the “exoneration capital” of the United States. And while we provide assistance with employment, housing, education, physical and mental health, as well as other immediate and longer-term needs for our clients near and far, we are proud to be housed at the center of an exoneration hot spot, where we can be as accessible as possible to our clients in and around Illinois and, our home base, Chicago.

Innocence organizations are, in many cases, primarily dedicated to freeing wrongfully convicted and incarcerated folks locally and beyond. When possible, these organizations also assist their clients once they’re released after having spent years to decades in prison for crimes they did not commit, helping them get back on their feet with the often limited resources they have at their disposal to do so.

Road 2 Reentry seeks to be a hub of post-incarceration support for our freed and exonerated community, filling the gaps in reentry support that are lacking after wrongful incarceration. 💫

We partner with local innocence organization, the Exoneration Project, to continue and broaden the pipeline of support available to freed and exonerated clients.

Wrongful convictions happen more than we know, highlighting only some of the grave injustices occurring at the hands of our criminal legal system. By offering and creating pillars of post-incarceration support to our clients, we aim to give them hope and opportunities to see a bright future despite experiencing the trials and tribulations of wrongful conviction, so they can rebuild their lives and thrive. ⚖️💪🌟💫

IT'S GIVING TUESDAY. ❤️❤️❤️

Help us reach our $20,000 fundraising goal! We're excited to participate this Giving Season and invite you to join us in our mission of supporting our freed and exonerated community in their journeys. Your contributions push our work forward and allow us to help as many freed and exonerated folks as possible. 🙌

Immediate and consistent support after incarceration is difficult to come by and it's no different for wrongfully convicted folks who often spend years to decades in prison for crimes they did not commit. Road 2 Reentry aims to change that by paving the way for our freed and exonerated community to thrive after wrongful conviction.

From assisting clients with obtaining IDs, helping with their job searches and resumes, connecting them with physical and mental health services and resources, and much more - we want to be a constant source of support for our clients, who are central to our mission and the framework of what we do.
