What if it was the summer you discovered who you are, explored your city, built new friendships, stepped into leadership, and left your mark on your community?

Impact U is a youth leadership experience designed for teens ready to grow, explore, and challenge themselves.

Yesterday was Day 1 of our Community Safety & Empowerment Series, and we kicked things off with Power.💪🏾

What a powerful session.

The workshop focused on trauma-informed approaches and helping young people develop the skills needed to navigate conflict, make healthy decisions, and recognize the power they have in choosing their responses.

One of my favorite parts of the session was listening to the youth answer real-life scenarios. They didn't give the "right" answers. They didn't give the answers they thought adults wanted to hear. They gave authentic answers.

And that's exactly why creating safe spaces matters.

If young people don't feel safe enough to tell us what they're really thinking, feeling, or experiencing, we can't help them. Growth begins with honesty. Healing begins with honesty. Prevention begins with honesty.

Too often adults want polished responses, but real impact happens when youth can show up as themselves without fear of judgment.

Thankful for a room full of young people willing to be real, engage in meaningful conversations, and begin building the skills that help them navigate challenges in healthier ways.

This is only the beginning. 💙

🚨 New Training Opportunity for Youth, Young Adults, Parents, and Community Members! 🚨

What would you do if someone stopped breathing? Experienced severe bleeding? Needed help before first responders arrived?

Project Impact 180 is partnering with -C Training Company to bring a Safety & Empowerment Training Series to North Lawndale this June.

Participants will receive hands-on training in:
✅ CPR & AED Response
✅ Stop the Bleed® Training
✅ Y.O.U.R. POWER™ Workshop (Youth Overcoming Uncertainty & Risk with POWER™)

These sessions are designed to build confidence, increase resilience, reduce risk, and equip participants with practical skills that can save lives and strengthen our communities.

A few years ago, this keyboard found its way into our organization. It has served its purpose, sat quietly through different seasons, and waited for the right home.

A few weeks back, it found one.

Meet Aeron.

His mom shared that he is largely self-taught and has taught himself to play multiple instruments. As I've watched him, I've been amazed by his curiosity, dedication, and natural musical ability. Sometimes all a young person needs is access to an opportunity and someone who believes in them.

We were honored to gift this keyboard to him so he can continue developing his talent outside of our program.

Now, I'm putting out a community call.

We're looking for:
🎹 A music instructor willing to help nurture a gifted young musician.
🎹 A sustain pedal compatible with his keyboard.
🎹 Anyone who has resources, connections, or opportunities that can help him continue growing in his musical journey.

Talent is a gift, but talent flourishes when a community comes alongside a young person and helps them develop it.

Today, we're celebrating Aeron. Tomorrow, who knows where his gift may take him.

This young man is finishing up his first year with us, and one thing I can always count on when he walks through the door is hearing him ask:

"Can I help with anything?"

He's in 6th grade.

Sometimes he's helping put out snacks. Sometimes he's helping set up the room. On this particular day, he asked if he could help make copies. I handed him an entire file and his response was, "That's a lot of copying!" 😂

But here's what made me smile.

One of our older teens had previously taught him how to use the copier. Now he knows how to make copies the old-school way at the machine and how to send documents through the app. What started as a simple task became an opportunity for peer leadership, skill-building, and confidence.

People often think youth development is about the big moments. The reality is that it happens in the small moments.

It's letting a young person help.
It's teaching them how to do something instead of doing it for them.
It's trusting them with responsibility.
It's creating opportunities for older youth to teach younger youth.

When we give young people chances to contribute, we send a powerful message:

"You are capable."
"You are needed."
"You can learn."

Today it was making copies.

Tomorrow it might be leading a project, mentoring another student, running a business, or leading a community.

Growth starts with opportunity.



This version highlights the 5 Cs of Positive Youth Development—especially competence, confidence, and connection—without sounding overly academic.
