It means gathering around the table, sharing stories, honoring those who came before us, and creating space for the generations to come.

On Tuesday, August 25, Kindred Civic Arts Forum invites you to a special Just(Us) Dinners: Black Day Celebration, honoring 133 years of Black Day in Chicago.
Together, we'll share a meal, reflect on the legacy of Frederick Douglass, explore the impact of the Chicago Black Renaissance, and engage in conversations that connect our past to the future we're building together.

On August 25, 1893, Black Chicagoans created a powerful celebration of resilience, excellence, and community in response to exclusion from the World's Columbian Exposition. Today, we continue that legacy.
At this special Just(Us) Dinners: Black Day Celebration, we'll share a delicious meal, engage in meaningful conversations, reflect on the legacy of Frederick Douglass, explore the Chicago Black Renaissance, and celebrate the stories that continue to shape our city.
This gathering also marks the beginning of a new annual tradition as we look ahead to the re-launch of The Black Aura in 2027.
