Rooted in Cheyenne Cheyenne's tree planting program: helping to support a more diverse and resilient urban canopy

Cheyenne is experiencing a high mortality rate in its street tree population as the result of an aging forest and past extreme weather events. In addition, citizens are not adequately replacing dead trees which results in large gaps in the tree canopy. With the threat of Emerald Ash Borer and the likely loss of thousands of ash trees once it arrives, Cheyenne’s forest canopy is in serious jeopardy. The need for a community tree planting program in Cheyenne is critical to maintain our forest canopy where trees are likely to die or have died and extend our forest canopy where trees are less abundant.

💧Provide water in the morning after temperatures have risen above 40 degrees.
🌳Newly Planted Trees with Leaves = Twice Weekly
🪾All Trees with No Leaves = Once Monthly
❗Ensure water bags drain within 12 hours
⏰Set reminders/alarms to water your trees.
👩‍🔧Remember, trees require supplemental watering throughout the entire year.

❓When do we stop watering trees for the year?
💧We don't! Trees need our help throughout the whole year.
🌳It's important to transition the frequency of your watering as we move into the "dormant" season. But don't let that word fool you - your trees are still working hard and need supplimental water to thrive!
🍂An easy way to remember to make your adjustment is by the leaves on your tree! Once they have completely fallen off, then transition to dormant watering.
🏜️Concerns about a dry winter? You're not the only one! Give your trees additional water here and there as the temperatures and moisture permits, but don't provide extra water regularly in the dormant season.
