Chesterlibrarynj Municipal public library serving Chester Borough and Chester Township; a member of the MAIN consortium.

The Chester Library serves the residents of Chester Borough and Chester Township, New Jersey. The library houses a collection of over 70,000 books, DVDs, CDs, video games, audio books and e-books. In addition, it offers a wide array of adult, teen and children's programs, public computers, online research services and community meeting rooms.

Why is MAIN changing its name?

The name Main Library Alliance is an update of Main’s original name, the Morris Automated Information Network (MAIN). While we’re enormously proud of our roots in Morris County, our service area now includes libraries in seven New Jersey counties. The new name offers an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves, to reflect our expanded service area, and to declare who we are and what we stand for.

Why Pillar Libraries (PILLAR)?

The name Pillar Libraries emphasizes the organization's role in supporting and uplifting public libraries. The name also has many other positive associations: Just as multiple pillars work together to support a structure, member libraries collaborate to make the alliance strong. Libraries are pillars of their communities. Pillars are built to last, and whatever changes come our way in the years to come, the organization will too!

The Main Library Alliance is the network of New Jersey public libraries that Chester Library has been a member of for many years.

On October 5, Main is changing its name to Pillar Libraries (PILLAR). Our library is not changing, we are the same network under a new name!
