Are you looking for an exciting visit from wildlife ambassador birds of prey for your summer camp, youth group, homeschool.co-op, retirement home, or any other gathering of people near Hampton Roads, VA?

Did you know that Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation offers Educational Programs with our amazing ambassador birds? Along with rehabilitating and releasing birds back into the wild, a large part of our mission is educating the public on how to minimize negative human interaction with birds in the wild. Here at Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation, our ultimate goal is always to rehabilitate and release the birds we care for. Sometimes after rehabbing a bird, they have an issue that makes them unreleasable, but they would still have a good quality of life in captivity. When this happens, they stay in our Education Program as ambassadors or we find them a good home with another organization's Education Program.

We have brought ambassador birds of prey to give fun, engaging, and educational presentations to every size group ranging from children's birthday parties, homeschool groups, and assisted living facilities to conventions and large school events. If you have a location to host the event, we can usually work out a way to do it! Request an education event here:

"No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced,”
-David Attenborough

If you don't have a group that needs an education program, come meet our ambassadors at one of our upcoming events! Visit the Education Program & Events tab on our website to find out where we'll be! https://www.naturesnannywildliferehab.org/

Have you ever been to one of our events? If so, which one? We would love to see any photos! 🦅🦉

I'll briefly introduce a few of our ambassadors:

⭐️Star - Approopriately named, Star is a Barred Owl with a ton of personality. He is our most vocal bird, and he loves to show off his “Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all” call.

🌒Eclipse - Eclipse is a beautiful Great Horned Owl! She has one eye, but she doesn't let that get her down one bit! Eclipse and Sunny are our largest ambassador owls.

☀️Sunny - Sunny is a Great Horned Owl who came into our care in 2017 with a poor prognosis, but he managed to overcome it all with the amazing care of our volunteers. Sunny prefers to “handle himself” and stand on a table.

🌠Celeste - Short for Celestial, Celeste is as beautiful and awe-inspiring as the night sky. Celeste is a Barn Owl, and she is as graceful and svelte as they come.

🌌Comet - Comet is a strong and spirited Red Tailed Hawk. Like Eclipse, Comet also has one eye, but he also doesn't let it get him down. When the wind blows outside, he enjoys wowing the crowd by spreading his wings wide.

And that's not all of the ambassadors! Reach out through the form linked above and let us know what you are looking for and we will get in touch with you ASAP!

Even all the way across the Atlantic Ocean, the birds know they're safe with our founder Dana Lusher. This African Red Eyed Bulbul found Dana in the bathroom and didn't want to let go during a recent fundraising trip to South Africa.

Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation has a cooperative relationship with Africa Through Your Lens Safaris, a conservation-focused company that offers safaris to different locations in Africa. If this is on your bucket list, email [email protected] for more information. There are 2 trips coming up in 2027 - the Okavango Delta from May 3-14 and North West from November 9-19. Nature's Nanny receives $300 from Africa Through Your Lens for every traveler that books through Dana.

We had a great time at the Pet Palooza on Saturday! Whooo else came out and stopped by? It was a hot day, but thanks to a beautiful location with lots of shade and a steady breeze, none of the birds were affected by the heat. We had Celeste the Barn Owl, Sunny the Great Horned Owl, Comet the Red Tailed Hawk, and Daisy the Eastern Screech Owl with us, and we had a great time introducing people to them and answering questions. The event was great fun with a huge variety of animals to meet - including farm animals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, plenty of dogs, and of course our Avian ambassadors! We want to say a huge thank you to Harbour View Owners Association for having us!

It's going to be hot today in southeast VA with potentially record breaking temperatures, so make sure to stay hydrated, dress appropriately for your activities, and wear sunscreen in the sun! If you're looking for a fun outing, come down and see us at Pet Palooza at 2000 North James Drive, Suffolk, Virginia 23435 from 10am-12pm!

We will be sure to monitor our ambassadors for signs that they need to cool down for a bit, like Celeste here is taking a break. Owls, like many other bird species, have a few methods of staying cool. They can't sweat, so they use a method of getting rid of body heat similar to panting called the Gular Flutter. Gular fluttering is when a bird opens their mouth and rapidly vibrates their membranes and muscles in their throat. This rapid vibration pumps air across the moist lining of their throat and mouth, speeding up evaporation and moving heat away from the body. This uses very little energy compared to panting and is a very efficient way of cooling them down.

We had an amazing time at the event yesterday at Aspire Art Gallery! The event was held in their beautiful art gallery, and everyone was excited to get started on their owl-inspired art pieces. We brought 2 of our ambassador owls. Celeste the Barn Owl came out first, and then Sunny the Great Horned Owl. Sunny prefers to “handle” himself at events and sit on a table, while Celeste enjoys going around the room while everyone admires her. Celeste is such a pro, and she's so relaxed that she often falls asleep at events. Sunny is more feisty and enjoys showing how fierce he is! They're both incredible ambassadors for their species. The attendees made some beautiful art while observing the owls and learning about both species and how vital they are to our ecosystem. Thank you Aspire Art Gallery for making this event possible, and we appreciate everyone who showed up!

Are you looking for a gift for an animal lover for Graduation or Father's Day? Look no further - buy your Grad or Dad a shirt or hoodie from Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation! It's a wonderful gift because your loved one gets a tangible gift while also supporting a wildlife rehab that rehabilitates native birds of prey. For every sale of a shirt or hoodie, Nature's Nanny receives a donation that helps us care for our native birds.

One of our talented volunteers created 4 new t-shirt designs for Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation! Proceeds from this fundraiser directly support the birds in our care.

Each design has unique color options to choose from and is available in multiple t-shirt materials, a long sleeved shirt, a crew neck sweatshirt, a hoodie, a v-neck shirt, and a child's shirt.
