This summer, ForKids welcomed more than a dozen interns who worked alongside teams across the organization, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to the work that supports children and families throughout our community.

From their first day to their last, our interns jumped in wherever they were needed and became an important part of the ForKids team.

We are grateful they chose to spend part of their summer with us. The contributions they made helped strengthen our work, and we look forward to seeing where their next steps take them.

We were delighted to welcome leaders from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to ForKids today!

Director Tamarah Holmes, PhD; Chief Operating Officer Cassidy Rasnick; and Senior Deputy Director Sandra Powell joined ForKids CEO Thaler McCormick and our team for a tour of Landmark Center.

DHCD has been a critical and trusted ForKids partner for more than 30 years. We were grateful for the opportunity to share our space and work—and to explore how we can continue creating more opportunities for families and kids in Virginia.

Congratulations to Dr. Nancy Welch on an extraordinary career in public health. ForKids is grateful for her partnership and for the many ways she has supported the health and well-being of children and families throughout our community.

Chesapeake Health Director Dr. Nancy Welch is stepping down from her role at the end of August after serving 35 years as the city's public health leader and spending nearly 50 years in the field.

Welch will officially retire in January, transitioning her focus to population health initiatives with Healthy Chesapeake, a community nonprofit she helped establish.

WHRO News sat down with Welch to discuss her next steps and what she hopes the next Chesapeake health director will carry forward.

ForKids is hiring an Accounting Assistant to join our team at the Landmark Center in Chesapeake. Working alongside the Finance Department, this role supports vendor payments, bank reconciliations, reporting and audit preparation while helping keep daily financial operations running smoothly.

A bachelor's degree is required, and experience in accounting, finance or a related field is preferred. We're seeking someone who is detail-oriented and comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues across the organization.

Since 2015, Chanco on the James Camp and Retreat Center has partnered with ForKids to help children experience all that summer camp has to offer.

As ForKids Director of Youth Development Shereka Steele shared, "camp is more than just summer fun. It's a chance to build confidence, make friends, try new things and simply be kids."
