CORRECTION!!!!! Count was missing a page, so the actual harvest of sweet potatoes for 2026 is……drum roll please……4212 # of wonderful goodness for our pantries! FABULOUS!

The count is in! We boxed 3258.9 pounds of sweet potatoes! What a bountiful harvest that we’ll be sharing with so many folks through the food pantries

A beautiful morning to spend with wonderful volunteers boxing up our sweet potatoes for distribution to the pantries.

Without these awesome volunteers we’d still be there boxing as we’re estimating over 3500 # of potatoes came out of the garden.

Our deepest thanks to ALL the helpers!

Does anyone know where we can get free milk crates? We ran out this morning with our abundant sweet potato harvest, so we need to add to our stock for the next time we harvest potatoes.
Thanks!

We are so very thankful for all of the wonderful volunteers who arrived early this morning and helped with our sweet potato harvest. The weather was perfect and the number of volunteers was fantastic!

We had family, friends, neighbors in addition to members of Centerville Baptist Church, Prince of Peace, St Stephen’s, Great Bridge Presbyterian, Great Bridge United Methodist, Journey Church and members of the Chesapeake Master Gardeners.

With all of these great folks we harvested some beautiful potatoes that will now “cure” for a couple of weeks before we box them up and start distributing them to our local food pantries.

Thank you to each and everyone who contributed in some way to the planting, maintaining and now harvesting of this bountiful crop.

A big shout out of thanks to the Chesapeake United soccer club for coming to take out the tired tomatoes, clean up the field, remove the stakes and cages and put them away for the winter.
It’s such a blessing to have these young folks and parents give of their time to help us out.
Thank you all!

It’s hard to believe, but we have used up all of our pine straw supply!

We’ve been blessed by awesome volunteers raking, bagging, filling pickups, and bringing straw to us over the past months….. but it’s all gone and fall crops need to be mulched!

We welcome bags or truck fulls of straw at the garden. If you have straw but can’t get it to us, please reach out and we’ll find someone to come get it! Our garden greatly appreciates your help!

It’s sweet potato harvest time once again!

This Thursday morning 10/1/26, starting at 8 am, we’ll be uncovering and crating our crop of potatoes. Once crated, we’ll store them for a couple of weeks to “cure” and then we’ll begin distribution to our local food pantries.

If you’re able to join us, please do! You’ll get dirty digging in the soil, but will benefit from lots of laughs and fellowship!
