The Greater South Jersey Chorus

The Greater South Jersey Chorus The Greater South Jersey Chorus (GSJC) is an auditioned, mixed-voice ensemble that embraces a diverse range of choral genres.

The 130-member chorus performs in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Cumberland, and Atlantic counties in New Jersey. The Chorus has earned widespread acclaim for its beautiful sound and thoughtful interpretations and has been described as “one of the few extraordinary values in South Jersey” and “a South Jersey treasure”. Musical highlights from previous seasons include Carmina Burana, Benjamin Brit

ten’s St. Nicholas, Christmas Cantata, by Daniel Pinkham and a special Spring 2010 concert,“ From Earth to the Skies…Music of Song and Spirit”, a powerful and moving program of multi-cultural musical spiritual expression. The Chorus also performs from time to time with professional orchestra and ensemble musicians and acclaimed guest soloists drawn from the tri-state area. In addition to its regular concert season, the GSJC has performed by invitation at Carnegie Hall for the Katrina relief effort, and, in April 2008 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in celebration of the rededication of the Americana Wing. The GSJC has recorded two commercial CDs. The most recent, The Greater South Jersey Chorus, A Choral Odyssey, released in 2008, is a compilation of select choral performances under Artistic Director Dean Rishel’s baton.

Have you ever run your finger across the top of a glass to make a sound? Composer Ēriks Ešenvald embraced the beautiful and sometimes other worldly tones of precisely-tuned wine glasses in Stars. With the choir accompanied only by these celestial tones, produced by an ensemble of “glassophonists”, this piece is one you need to hear in person to believe.

Join us at our concert, Celestial Escape, this Sunday, May 3rd in Cherry Hill and experience this stunning piece for yourself!

Join us on May 3rd in Cherry Hill, NJ for the final concert in our 2025-2026 season.

Be swept away in the beauty and sounds of works that point our gaze upward, as we look beyond the stars for inspiration, strength, and humility. Framing works by Handel and Haydn is a collection of works by esteemed living composers Ēriks Ešenvalds, Shawn Kirshner, and Molly Ijames. At the center of the program is Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, an elaborate and grand musical setting of text from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.
