North Carolina communities are stronger when our first responders have the tools and resources they need.

FEMA released a grant announcement supporting fire departments and first responders across our state today.

This funding helps enhance preparedness, response capabilities, and community resilience.

Read the full press release below to learn more about how these investments support those who protect and serve North Carolina communities every day.

• $291.6M for equipment, vehicles, PPE and responder wellness
• $324M to help departments hire, recruit and retain firefighters

Disaster response works best when coordination, communication, and statewide response efforts remain unified under Emergency Management alongside our public safety partners. Senate Bill 1050 would change this.

Part of NCEMA’s role is advocating for our members and emergency response partners to uphold North Carolina’s strong, proven, and coordinated emergency management system.

A Senate bill would shift key disaster response authority from NC Emergency Management to the Office of the State Fire Marshal and redirect nearly $5 million in remaining Helene recovery funds.
