MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Congratulations to our Communication Liaison Zai on receiving two internship opportunities for this summer. She will be working in medical and traditional medicine fields in partnership with the Cherokee Indian Hospital and Center for Native Health. She wants to bring back our traditional birthing practices and hopes to be a doula in the future. We are amazed by the work she continues to put in to represent our tribe and support Indigenous females. She is what it means to be a Strong Cherokee woman who is paving the way for young females in this field. We are beyond grateful and proud to be a part of her journey and we can't wait to see what she does next. Congratulations Zai!!

On May 7th. 2026 our resolution in collaboration with Earth Keepers and Natural Resource Department to commit the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to a fundraising campaign to remove the Ela Dam passed unanimously. We are so excited to expand partnerships and build relationships across Turtle Island and represent our tribe and leadership. What an honor to be working alongside Indigenous peoples and community members who are passionate about protecting Longperson and our community's future. Thank you to those who have paved the way for us to continue doing this important work. we can't wait to collaborate, partner and protect Longperson as a community. The work isn't done but we are stronger as a community!

NAIWA Daughters is incredibly proud to celebrate our Founder and Chair, Jasmine Smith, as she speaks at the United Nations during the 2026 UNPFII Side Event: Indigenous Youth Protecting Ocean Kin for Health & Wellbeing.

Jasmine’s leadership reflects exactly why NAIWA Daughters was created—to ensure Indigenous girls and young women know their voices matter, their leadership is needed, and their advocacy can create real change.

From Cherokee community work to national and international advocacy spaces, Jasmine continues to lead with humility, purpose, and deep love for our people and our natural relatives. She carries our ancestors, our teachings, and the responsibility of protecting future generations into every room she enters.

We are proud to see Indigenous youth leadership represented on a global stage and grateful for the elders, mentors, and community members who helped build the path for this moment.

Please join us in supporting Jasmine and all Indigenous youth leaders protecting our lands, waters, and relatives.
