Meet Rosebud 🌹🐄
In the summer of 2023, we learned about a very special cow in Minnesota. Rosebud was born with a deformity in her front left leg and needs a prosthetic to get around. Her foster family loved her with their whole hearts and did everything they could, but they didn’t have access to the large-animal vet care she needed. So they made the difficult, loving decision to find her a forever home where she could truly live her best life. 💛
That home was here with you, Barn Family. 🏡
Rosie (as we lovingly call her) is as sweet as they come. She adores being around people, soaking up brushing sessions, and handing out kisses to anyone who stops by. Since settling into her new life, her personality has blossomed even more, and she’s become one of the biggest love bugs on the farm.
She’s also become a best friend. 🫶 Because of her mobility needs, Rosie was the perfect match for Mabel, another resident cow whose disability keeps her from living with the rest of the herd. After a careful introduction, the two became inseparable, and their friendship has been a joy to watch ever since.
Why hay and straw matter so much for Rosie ❄️🌾
When winter settles over Michigan, the grass disappears and the ground freezes solid. That’s when Rosie depends on us for everything:
🌾 Hay is her food. With nothing to graze, hay fills her belly every single day from the first frost until spring.
🛏️ Straw is her comfort. Living with a prosthetic means Rosie spends more time lying down, so thick, soft straw bedding cushions her joints, keeps her warm, and keeps her dry through the coldest nights.
For Rosie, a tummy full of hay and a deep straw bed are what make winter safe, healthy, and cozy, with Mabel snuggled right beside her. 💕
