Dementia Friendly Charlton strives to involve all sectors of the community in order to create an environment where individuals with dementia, as well as their friends, families and care-partners can live as independently as possible and continue to be a vibrant part of the town of Charlton.

💡 Caregiver Tip: Meet the emotion before correcting the facts.

When someone living with dementia says something that isn’t accurate, our first instinct may be to correct them.

Instead, try:
❤️ “That sounds really upsetting.”
❤️ “You seem worried.”
❤️ “Tell me more about what you’re thinking.”

You don’t always have to correct the memory. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is acknowledge the feeling behind it.

Small changes in how we respond can make difficult moments a little easier for everyone.

Our Dementia Friendly Charlton caregiver support group meets this Thursday, August 20 at 6:00 PM at the Charlton Library.

Whether you’re newly navigating a diagnosis, have been caring for someone for years, or simply want a place to talk with people who understand—there is a seat for you.

Come as you are. Share as much or as little as you’d like. Sometimes knowing you’re not alone makes all the difference.
