Charlton Historical Society Meeting
September 10, 2026 • 7:00 PM • Rider Tavern

The Charlton Historical Society’s next meeting will be held on September 10, 2026, at 7pm at Rider Tavern. Jonathan Lane, Executive Director of Revolution 250, will present “The Rhode Island Battle.” Many men from Charlton and the surrounding towns answered the alarm during this campaign, and his talk will explore their role in this important moment of the Revolution.

Sept 10th - 7pm, Rider Tavern: Jonathan Lane, Executive Director of Revolution 250 will speak on “The Battle in Rhode Island”, many of Charlton’s and surrounding towns militia answered the alarm.

Sept 24th - 7pm, Rider Tavern: Trivia Night

Oct 3rd - all day: “Tavern Crawl”, details coming soon.

Oct 17th - Rider Tavern:
9am - 12 pm: yard sale
2-5pm: Halloween Family Fun Day

Thank you to all who attended “Land, Revolution and Charlton” last night. The Charlton Heritage Preservation Trust and the Charlton Historical Society are truly humbled by the number of people who came to hear James David Moran speak. The room was packed, we pulled out every chair in the tavern and people still needed to stand. Thank you again to all who attended. The Charlton Historical Society’s next event will be held on Aug 13th.

Thinking of attending tonight’s annual meeting, but having second thoughts because of the heat? We got you covered with a new air conditioner. You may not get cold, but we hope you will be comfortable as we celebrate the student essay contest winners and listen to Roger Desrosiers as he talks about the Declaration of Independence. See you at 7pm. The tavern will be open at 6pm for tours.

It was great to have the 5th grade class from Charlton Middle visit both the Rider Tavern and the #2 Schoolhouse, with narration from Frank Morrill of course! Thanks to Erin Anderson for reaching out to get this planned, see you next year.

History Trivia Night held last night was so much fun! A little learning about the history of Charlton, pizza and lots of laughs. Thank you to all who attended. Your enthusiasm, knowledge and laughs help bring the Tavern alive.
