Most of us never expect to be one eviction notice away from losing our home. Tanisha did everything right, worked hard, budgeted carefully, and still found herself preparing to live in her car.

Because this community showed up, we were able to step in with emergency rent assistance and one‑on‑one financial coaching. Tanisha got current with her landlord, built a more sustainable plan, and now tells us, “The same way Crisis Assistance Ministry helped me, I am trying to help others.”

We are now just past the halfway point of our Match Challenge. Every dollar given is matched up to 1 million dollars, so your support helps twice as many neighbors like Tanisha stay safely housed.

Two decades ago, Jennifer’s family squeezed into a tiny two-room apartment, counting every dollar to stay afloat. They saved vacation money in an envelope, one small bill at a time, while stretching paychecks through job changes and a pandemic. Rent and utility assistance from Crisis Assistance Ministry kept them from falling all the way off the cliff.

Four years ago, she bought her first house at fifty‑one — and she still remembers the day someone helped her stay housed long enough to get there. Curious how she went from almost losing housing to buying her first home at 51? Read the full story on our site. https://ow.ly/MNMX50YSA5L

In this chapter of our history, Crisis Assistance Ministry became an independent 501(c)(3), evolving from “not just a faith based organization, but a community based organization,” as Caroline Myers described it. Being named the lead agency for financial assistance across Mecklenburg County solidified our role as a trusted place where neighbors turn when a financial shock threatens their stability.

Care in a bag looks like this: tissues, lip balm, handwritten notes, hand sanitizer wipes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, body wipes, and lotion. 💛

The Red Ventures IT team came together to assemble nearly 200 care kits filled with these essentials for our neighbors in crisis. For someone facing a financial emergency, a small bag of hygiene items can mean comfort, dignity, and a reminder that they are not alone.

Thank you, Red Ventures, for showing up for Mecklenburg County in such a thoughtful way. Want to do something similar with your coworkers, faith group, or friends? Reach out to our Volunteer team to plan your own care kit build and make a tangible difference. https://ow.ly/voRs50Z2GVl

In our Match Challenge “arena,” four teammates from across the agency step in as fighters, each representing a different department that shows up when our neighbors are in crisis. The twist: there are no rivals here. We all work together so families can keep the lights on and a roof overhead.

Step into the arena with us and take the Challenge. Every gift is matched, dollar for dollar, so your support goes twice as far for neighbors facing financial hardship.

Step into the arena with us. Take the Challenge and double your impact: https://ow.ly/Eu6x50Z4QQ5

In November 1982, Mecklenburg County commissioners recommended that Crisis Assistance Ministry administer the county’s General Assistance funds. Becoming the lead agency for emergency financial assistance cemented our role as the place where neighbors turn when a financial crisis threatens their stability.

Sun, splash, snacks … and about 47 loads of laundry. 😅

Summer fun is right around the corner, and our neighbors in need deserve to enjoy it, just like everyone else. This week, our most needed Amazon Wishlist items are summer beach towels and laundry detergent – the simple things that make pool days, park days, and backyard adventures a little brighter (and a lot cleaner).

You can shop our Amazon Wishlist and have towels and detergent shipped directly to Crisis Assistance Ministry so families can enjoy the sunshine and still have clean, fresh clothes waiting at home.
