TreesCharlotte

TreesCharlotte TreesCharlotte is a public/private nonprofit who partners with the community to plant and care for trees, growing a healthier canopy for everyone.

TreesCharlotte was created as a public/private collaborative dedicated to planting and giving away 5,000 annually, primarily through volunteer efforts. The collaborative also educates Charlotte’s residents on the importance of the canopy and ways to plant and preserve trees. Among the myriad benefits, trees clean our air, ease storm water run-off, reduce our energy usage, cool our streets, parks, and homes, and provide natural beauty that is the envy of cities across the world.

Many thanks to and the U.S. Bank Foundation for their support of our planting 69 trees at the Shelton Knoll apartments on March 27. We recently received funding from the U.S. Bank Foundation Opportunity Fund, which will help increase tree canopy and habitat for wildlife.

This is the first part of a larger project to continue planting trees and preserving tree canopy in our Treesilience neighborhoods. Special thanks to the 20 volunteers from U.S. Bank who joined us for the tree planting and 13 community volunteers, including our TreeMasters who helped lead the event.

Thank you to funding and volunteer support from corporate partner, NUCOR, we added 43 trees to the Coulwood neighborhood, in Northwest Charlotte. This planting was designed to add shade in the playground area, natural screening near the pool, and a mix of flowering and evergreen trees throughout the community. From the first shovel in the ground to the final layer of mulch, it was a great day of teamwork! Most importantly, these trees will continue to grow and serve Coulwood for years to come. We’re grateful to NUCOR for helping make this project possible, and for spending such a beautiful morning investing in Coulwood’s shared spaces.

Meet Alex, our Urban Forest Manager 🌳

Alex helps guide where trees are planted across Charlotte through our CommunityWoods program. By working with neighborhoods and assessing planting sites, he helps ensure trees are placed where they can make the biggest impact.

Together, we’re growing a healthier canopy for our community.

Know of a space in Mecklenburg County that could hold 25 trees? Apply through our CommunityWoods program!
