CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF THE CATTLEWOMEN

For more than half a century, Texas CattleWomen have carried forward a tradition of service, education and advocacy for Texas beef and the families who produce it.

Texas CowBelles began in 1972 when 28 Panhandle women came together to organize a statewide association. Betty Carrothers of Hereford served as the first Texas president, and the organization quickly spread across the state.

In 1973, Texas CowBelles gathered in Abilene for their first annual convention—making our return to Abilene in 2026 especially meaningful.

Through the decades, these women promoted beef, educated consumers and youth, supported agriculture and gave a powerful voice to Texas cattle producers. In 1986, CowBelles became CattleWomen, but the heart of the organization remained unchanged.

From the CowBelles who paved the way to the CattleWomen carrying the torch today, we honor more than 50 years of women dedicated to beef, agriculture and the cattle industry.

This is their legacy. This is our legacy.
