Leaving an abusive relationship is not always a simple decision.
And asking “why didn't she leave?” places responsibility on the person experiencing abuse instead of the person choosing to abuse.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline emphasizes that survivors have options and that safety planning should be individualized to their circumstances.

You don't have to understand every reason someone stays to support them.

You can simply believe them.
