The Sacred Flame: Indigenous Fireside story series has been a beautiful journey, meeting wonderful Elders, Singers, and great storytellers. Thank you, Sue Coulter, and all the staff at Jughandle Creek Farm and Nature Center, as well as Xa Kako Dile: wonderful Land Stewards and Board Members for all the help and support. The Community Foundation of Mendocino County for the amazing grant to make this possible. Gemma Benton was our last speaker for the series, and she was amazing. Big Yah’wee to all our speakers for sharing your presence with us and everyone who attended. We look forward to more series and journeys in our future together.

🌿Xa Kako Dile: Our Board and Land Stewards U’ilani, Branch and Carlon want to send a big thank you to Mendocino Middle schoolers for all their volunteer help during this school year. They weeded, helped fill our raised beds, and contributed many hours of amazing work. We appreciate all the teachers, bus drivers, and staff who made this possible. Our California native plants are happy!!🌿

Grateful that my California Indian Freedom Act of 2026, AB 1881, was approved last week and now will be heard in the state Senate. It will allow Native Americans access to state lands for the practice of their religion, including gathering of Native plants, holding ceremonies, and other religious traditions.
