Okandogs IT IS ALL ABOUT CARING. In 2014, my wife, Jan and I, started trying to help Okanogan area dogs. There is no public money available at all to help out.

There are no funded Humane Societies or shelters for Okanogan County dogs. Any effort has to come from the private sector both in terms of money and effort. We have been successful in helping almost 6400 dogs so far. We have done this by rapidly responding to dogs in need and by building confidence and trust. Our successful adoption rate nears 100% through the use of carefully chosen transfer partners who put local area dogs first. The euthanasia rate and overall fatality rate is almost nil. As trust in us grows more people have chosen to follow us and to participate in our cause. We maintain a vet emergency fund to assist injured and ill dogs who have no other resources available. We have a program that provides free stay at home spay for mama dogs when pup litters are entrusted to us. 📰 BREAKING NEWS 📰

Today is National Pug Day.

After learning this information, our longest-stay girl Phoebe has announced that she is now a pug.

To support her application, Phoebe submitted the following qualifications:
✅ Loves
✅ Professional adventurer
✅ Expert cuddle enthusiast
✅ Four legs
✅ Very good girl

However, this claim has been thoroughly investigated.

Unfortunately, our findings are as follows:
• Phoebe remains significantly taller than a pug.
• Phoebe has an entirely different face than a pug.
• Phoebe does not sound like a defective espresso machine when sleeping.

After careful review, the committee has reached a final decision:
❌ Application to become a pug denied.

Reason:
Still not a pug.

The good news?
Phoebe doesn't actually need to be a pug.

She just needs someone to give her a chance.

While the pugs are busy celebrating today, Phoebe will be over here doing what she does best: being an AMAZING dog, waiting patiently for her family to find her.

This dog was left behind when their owners moved away, and now they need a safe place to land.

We are still gathering details and do not yet know age, gender, or much of their story, but we do know one thing: this dog deserves a second chance.

We have an opportunity to save them, but we must have a foster committed before we can bring them into rescue.

⚠️ WARNING: Cute Puppies Ahead ⚠️

Proceed with caution.

Small enough to fit in your lap. Big enough for adventures. Good with kids. Dog-friendly. Scruffy little terrier face. Those ridiculous short legs.

Meet Ember and Asher. ❤️

At just 2 months old, these sibling pups are learning that the world is a pretty wonderful place. They're playful, sweet, and a little shy at first, but give them a moment and their personalities start to shine.

Ember (the tan pup) and Asher (the white pup) are each looking for families to help them grow into the confident dogs they're meant to be.

And honestly? Just look at them.

We're not sure what breeds make up these adorable little mutts, but we're pretty sure the recipe included a little terrier, a lot of cuteness, and extra-short legs.

UPDATE: A huge THANK YOU to everyone who reached out! We are especially grateful to Grant County Animal Outreach who had nursing Mama shepherd and a wonderful foster who stepped up to bottle-feed these little ones.

Thanks to this amazing community effort, all 7 puppies are safe! Mama will also be spayed so there are no more unplanned surprises.

❤️ Dear Future Family… I'm Still Trying ❤️

I've been waiting for you for a while now.

A whole year, actually.

The people at Okandogs tell me you're out there somewhere. They tell me that one day someone will see me and understand me.

I hope they're right.

Once upon a time, I didn't trust people very much.

The world felt scary, and staying away felt safer than letting anyone get close.

Then something happened.

People started giving me chances.

And I've been trying ever since.

I've been trying to learn that humans can be kind.

Trying to be brave.
Trying to trust.
Trying to believe that I belong somewhere.

Some days those things are still hard for me.

But I'm trying.

Every day.

I may never be the dog who runs up to every stranger as if we've known each other forever.

But when I love someone, I love them with my whole heart.

The people who know me say I'm loyal. They say I've come so far. Sometimes I hear them talking about how proud they are of me.

I like hearing that.

I love other dogs, too.

They help me remember that the world isn't so scary. I'd really like a confident dog friend in my forever home. Someone who can help me keep learning and keep growing.

Because I'm still doing that.

Still learning.
Still growing.
Still trying.

What I'm looking for isn't perfection.

I'm looking for someone who doesn't expect perfection from me, either.

Someone patient.
Someone gentle.
Someone who understands that trust isn't built in a day.

Someone who sees how hard I'm trying and decides I'm worth trying for, too.

And if you give me that chance?

I promise something.

I'll keep trying.

🐾 Double the Cute, Double the Fun! 🐾

Meet Tama and Fia, two young pups who have grown up side-by-side and absolutely adore each other. Whether they're playing, exploring, cuddling, or simply keeping each other company, these best friends are rarely far apart.

💙 Fia is an energetic Jack Russell Terrier who loves adventures, hiking, fetch, and making new friends.

💙 Tama is a sweet Dachshund/Chihuahua mix with a big personality, a love of tennis balls, and a talent for stealing hearts.

Both pups know their basic commands, do well with cats, and can live with other dogs given proper introductions.

While Tama and Fia would love to continue their journey together, they can be adopted separately into loving homes that will give them the attention, exercise, and companionship they deserve.

You don’t have to be ready to foster forever to make a HUGE difference. ❤️

Sometimes a dog or puppy just needs a safe place for a few days while we arrange a transfer. Sometimes one of our foster families is going out of town and needs someone to step in. And sometimes… we get an urgent call and need a home right now.

That’s where Temporary & Emergency Fosters come in. 🏡🐶

You can help by opening your home for:
🐾 A couple of days
🐾 A weekend
🐾 While a foster family is away
🐾 Until transport or another foster is arranged
🐾 Puppies or dogs who simply need somewhere safe

You don’t have to commit forever. You just have to be willing to help when you can.

Every temporary foster gives us one more option to say YES to a dog who needs us.
