Happy Earth Day McHenry County! 🌎🌱🦋🐝

🌿🌍 Happy Earth Day, McHenry County! 🌍🌿
Today we celebrate this incredible planet, and we are so lucky to call McHenry County somewhere that takes that celebration seriously every single day of the year.

Let's take a moment to appreciate what we have right in our own backyard:
🏞️ McHenry County Conservation District protects and manages over 25,800 acres of open space across 35 public sites. Woodlands, prairies, wetlands, ponds, creeks, and rivers, all preserved for us and future generations.
🥾 106 miles of hiking trails
🚴 45 miles of biking trails
🐴 40 miles of equestrian trails
🎣 25 fishing areas
🛶 6 canoe launches
⛺ 6 campgrounds
🌾 17 dedicated Illinois State Nature Preserves
And beautiful Nippersink Creek is home to 40 state endangered and threatened plant and animal species. 🦅🌱
Beyond the MCCD, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County has permanently protected over 3,500 acres through conservation areas and private easements.

We are RICH in nature here in McHenry County. 💚
So this Earth Day, get outside, breathe it in, and be grateful for every acre that has been preserved and protected for all of us.

Kids In Need of McHenry Co - a 501c3
sent out an urgent SOS! 🚨🚨

Do you have any kids size 4T to size 10 winter clothing you can donate??
They could use our help!
They've given out 6,000 articles of clothing in the last 6 weeks!
That is more than double their norm, and they have 26 more kids coming in JUST TOMORROW!
Please donate what you can and hit up some resale shops for them.

You can drop them off at:

4410 IL Rt 176 #12, Crystal Lake. There is a drop box available 24/7 if they are not open.

DM me if you have donations and can't make it to KIN drop box, I am happy to arrange porch pick up your bags of clothes Tues-Friday evening this week!

Admission is FREE

2025 Green Living Expo Highlights:
- Griffin Museum of Science and Industry Exhibit
- 2,500-gallon fish tank with native fish
- Pumpkin composting
- Interactive watershed exhibit
- Eco-friendly vendors

New this year - Free fixes for small items at the Repair Fair
Repair Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Experts will be available onsite to help repair:
- Lamps
- Small appliances
- Clothing mending
- Bicycles
- Small engines
No electronics, computers, computer screens, or cell phones. Projects must be able to be fixed in under an hour. Limit three items per person.
Walk-ins only—first come, first served.

It's that time of year to raise money for a fantastic local non-profit animal rescue A Heart for Animals!

Pet photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus 🎅🤶
Saturday 12/6 & Sunday 12/7
NOON - 3pm each day

100% of the proceeds go directly to A Heart for Animals so that they can continue to find loving homes for animals. 🐾❤️

You can reserve a time slot for your photos or show up without one (there may be a wait time) - photos aren't just limited to your furry family members, feel free to bring the whole family to get in on these photos!

Cary & Surrounding areas affected by the recent storm..SNAP recipients who lost food due to a power-outage in excess of four hours, flood, fire or other disaster can request replacements from IDHS.
