Are you familiar with the Kiwanis Family House? It is a 32-room facility that offers discounted or free rooms to families who have children at Schriners Children’s Hospital or the UC Davis Medical Center. It enables families to stay close by when their little ones are sick and getting treatment.

Local Kiwanis Clubs sponsor rooms, and members of the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael and Del Campo Key Club were recently in our room giving it a new paint job and redecorating it with a river theme. It still has some finishing touches to do, but our group put in great work

The Schweitzer Elementary K-Kids, which is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael, have been collected non-perishable food for the Kids Can Food Drive. They made posters, taped together boxes for collecting food, and made announcements in their classroom. The Kiwanis Club of Carmichael has also been collecting food to donate to the K-Kids. If you would like to donate any food, this is the last week they are collecting. You could drop it off at the school and tell them it’s for the K-Kids collection.

Last Friday, members of the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael hosted a game at the CMP-Carmichael Harvest Festival. It was a giant maze that kids and parents had to work together to get tennis balls through. It was a lot of fun. CMP-Carmichael is an organizational member of the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael, and one of the Kiwanians volunteering is a former student!

We had a fantastic morning at Carmichael Park for the 4th annual Sharon Ruffner Community Service Day, honoring an extraordinary woman who gave so much back to her community. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael, Girl Scout Troop 3191, and the Del Campo Key Club worked on a variety of projects, such as sorting plastic to turn in to Trex (and keep out of landfills), filling bags with non-perishable food for kids in the San Juan Unified School District, prepping activity materials for the Koobs Nature Area, and building a cardboard tractor for the Cameron Ranch Elementary Harvest Festival. Sharon would be very proud of all the good work and camaraderie that went on this morning!
