This year's National Garden Week is celebrated from June 7 - 13, 2026. Spearheaded by National Garden Clubs, In., this annual event promotes the love of gardening, environmental awareness, and community beautification.

Members attend District IV, V & VII meeting. Thank you to Afton Garden Club for hosting, Baxter Garden Club for yummy breakfast items, Greater Des Moines Garden Cllub who handled registration, Knoxville Federated Garden Club for patriotic table centerpieces, Woodland Hills Garden Club for Garden Moments - sharing information on birds hitting windows and their sparkling solution, and finally to our group who handled the Plant Sale and bringing door prizes.

I just found out that the Urban Taproom & Grille in Winterset recently closed. If you are planning on attending the meeting in Winterset tomorrow and not bringing a sack lunch then you will want to check out alternative places to have lunch.

Our Warren County Justice Center Remembrance Garden committee completed the flower garden planting this week. Thank you to Zac Wheeler, Warren Co. Facilities Manager for getting the additional soil we requested added to the bed and testing the drip irrigation. Last step is to add mulch to help control any weeds.

A fun Youth Container Gardening Class was held on Tuesday, May19th at the Warren County Extension Office. We hope to see all these class participants entered in the Warren County Youth Horticulture Division. Each youth horticulture division class blue ribbon winner is awarded a $10 premium from Ackworth Garden Club.

Another successful Plant Sale in the rear view mirror. Thanks to everyone who attended and for supporting our community projects. We reconnected with some old friends and made many new ones. The weather was perfect and we were treated to a beautiful day.

This wouldn’t be successful without the hard work of all our club members and their spouses/family. Thank you all!
