“Tonight we are making history; tonight we are rectifying history” my friend Rep. Ako Abdul-Samad stated on the house floor

Moments ago, the Iowa House passed HF 2647, a bill for justice reform. This bill restricts the use of chokeholds, and prevents law enforcement officers with a record of serious misconduct from being employed as a law enforcement officer in Iowa. This bill was drafted by BOTH majority and minority leaders, and passed with 100% bipartisan support.

Stay tuned on this issue as we create meaningful reforms to ensure law enforcement respects human dignity, and protects the freedom and liberty of each and every individual.

What an honor to be in the chamber for this historic moment.

Link to watch the debate, lots of great moments.
