Today was a reunion of sorts at South Side Farms! πŸ₯¬πŸ₯•πŸ₯¦

Our newest farm associate, Mar'Tavion, was reunited today with his former classmates Jamie' and D'Angelo, who were also together in the Big Brothers program. Their mentor, Michael Goodin, brought Jamie' and D'Angelo to help with the farm stand today. It was an incredible reunion for the three of them, and it was so special for them to see Mar'Tavion hard at work.

During their time here, they experienced firsthand what exceptional customer service looks like. They themselves were in complete awe of the Grade A produce we are providing right here in a federally designated food desert. This level of quality, passion, and community pride is exactly what needs to be seen, not only in Cape Girardeau but in communities all across the state of Missouri. And South Side Farms is ready and willing to lead the way!

This is exactly what it means to be a part of cultivating crops and people. Our farm associate James, a part time Lincoln employee and CTC graduate, was there; Mar'Tavion, who is heading off to college this fall, was there; and you were there! All of us together on our farm in South Cape, making great things happen to bring back access to fresh, healthy, nutritious food where access had completely vanished.

We have a major announcement to share soon! Stay tuned! But in the meantime and in-between time... Let's Grow Something Together, Cape Girardeau! πŸ₯¬πŸ₯•πŸ₯¦

Hello friends! Researchers from Southeast Missouri State University are conducting a Community Food Assessment to better understand food access, shopping habits, and produce consumption among local residents. This research will help identify barriers to obtaining healthy foods and provide valuable information to support future initiatives aimed at creating a healthier community.

The information gathered will help guide the efforts of South Side Farms and other community partners as they work to increase access to fresh, nutritious foods for residents in the area. We invite you to take a few minutes to complete our survey. Your responses are important, and every voice helps us better understand the needs of our community. Please consider sharing this post with friends, family, and neighbors in the area.

To protect everyone's privacy, please do not comment on this post about whether you have taken the survey or share any of your answers in the feed. All results are completely confidential.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a few kind words are priceless. 🌟

Every single day, the incredible people of this community pour so much love and support into South Side Farms, and it means the world to us. This week, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Mrs. Lashanda Daniels and her son to the farm stand. They took a tour of the farm, and her encouraging, kind words are exactly what keeps our team fueled and moving forward!

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. We are actively scaling our model to show communities all across the state of Missouri how you absolutely can bring fresh food access and true empowerment to a neighborhood by leading the way with agriculture.

Have you toured the farm yet?

Drop us a comment below so we can schedule some time to show you around! πŸ‘‡

🌟 The work we are doing to restore access to fresh, healthy, and nutritious food in a federally designated food desert is not easy. But when you are collaborating with great people, it makes the work so fulfilling that you press on! ✨

Today, five incredible collaborations came together right here on our farm as the cultivating of crops and people marches forward.

Who are they? Well, we are glad you asked:

YouthBuild Culinary Cohort: This program provides education, job training, and leadership development for young adults building career skills. These talented young minds were right out in the fields connecting the food we grow to the kitchen skills they are mastering while learning firsthand why local food and food access are so important.

VIP Industries: This amazing organization provides vocational training and employment for individuals with developmental disabilities. Their clients were able to sell some of our plant starts to earn a little pocket money for the things they want to buy while learning valuable life and interpersonal skills.

Big Brothers Big Sisters: This incredible mentorship program helped man our farm stand and connect with community members, and we are so proud that one of their own youth is now working on the farm with us this summer.

Fish Food Pantry: Fish reached out to us to see how we can partner in service and use our farm fresh produce to help feed the community members who contact them for support.

South Side Farms: By leading with agriculture, we are providing the ground, the knowledge, and the passion to anchor this entire community food movement.

Inspired yet? We are! Join the movement. We cannot do this without YOU!
