🚨 26 INDIVIDUALS ARRESTED IN DOGFIGHTING OPERATION 🚨

On Friday, October 30, 2026, just before 11:30 p.m., a Hart County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the end of Jim Heard Road in reference to vehicles parked in the roadway.

Upon arrival, the deputy observed multiple vehicles parked along both sides of the roadway and could hear dogs barking and growling from a wooded area nearby.

As the deputy walked up a drive leading into the wooded area, he discovered multiple additional vehicles. The deputy observed dog crates in the back of some of the vehicles, several of which appeared to have blood on them.

While walking up the path, the deputy encountered three males. Upon seeing the deputy, the individuals turned and attempted to flee. The deputy was able to take one male into custody while numerous other individuals fled on foot into the surrounding woods.

Additional law enforcement units responded to assist, including deputies from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office deployed its drone to assist in locating the fleeing individuals. With the assistance of three K9 units and two drones, 20 individuals were located hiding in the surrounding woods and a nearby field.

Four additional individuals who arrived at the scene were determined to be connected to the operation and were also arrested. Two more individuals were located walking along a nearby roadway and were determined to be involved.

A total of 26 individuals were arrested and charged with Dogfighting and Cruelty to Animals.

During the investigation, 26 vehicles were towed from the scene, multiple dogs and fi****ms were seized, and large amounts of cash were recovered and seized as evidence.

Hart County Animal Control responded to the scene and took possession of the dogs that were seized during the investigation.

Dogfighting is a cruel and inhumane activity that has no place in Hart County or anywhere else. What started as a deputy responding to vehicles parked in the roadway led to the discovery of a large dogfighting operation involving individuals from multiple states.

I am extremely proud of our deputies for their quick actions and outstanding work in locating and apprehending these individuals. I also want to personally thank the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the GBI for their assistance.

This investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Paws up tonight for Miss Bonnie. She had her girl parts removed this morning. She was having a rough time with the anesthesia afterwards. But she's doing better this evening with some broth and honey. Thank you, Kristen!

Some good news, she tested HW negative. She's now fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, received a cone, and pain meds for a few days. This beautiful girl is being cared for by her Advocate while she heals. She will move on to her new home this weekend.

🐾 Free Rabies Clinic – November 7. 2026!

FREE rabies vaccine clinic sponsored by Cherokee County Animal Shelter for Cherokee County residents on November 7, 2026 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the shelter! This clinic is available while supplies last, so we encourage everyone to plan accordingly. Please note that this is a clinic is exclusively giving rabies vaccines and no other service (except for microchipping) will be offered.

Keep in mind:
• All pets must be secured in a crate or on a leash for everyone’s safety
• Please pack your patience
• There are a limited number of vaccines, and the clinic will end at 6 PM or earlier if supplies run out

RESCUE ONLY: Tiny boy Juan is in need of a Ga licensed rescue asap. He's only 6 months old and weighs in at a whopping 5 pounds! His hold is complete and he's spending his days in the medical room because his back legs are jiggly like jello. Personally, I believe he may have been exposed to something toxic. In time, with proper care, he could beat this jiggly legs syndrome (that's not a real medical diagnosis). He needs further evaluation. Juan could be at risk if he's not rescued soon. He is currently NOT ADOPTABLE!

Rescues/Transporters: Do you really know where your dogs are going when you transfer/transport?

Which Georgia rescues sent dogs to the Pittie Project PNW (Pacific NW) to suffer at the hands of Ashley Georgia?

Donors: Stop donating blindly to 3rd party organizations that hand out your money like candy. Find out where the dogs are going, check them out on Candid, Propublica or Charity Navigator, then donate. It's a common sense concept.

Great report from south Florida. In Georgia, it's also illegal to sell puppies in parking lots, flea markets, parks, sidewalks, etc
The law went into effect July 1, 2025. Call 911 to get your local law enforcement agency involved. If you can do so safely, take photos, get tag info and report immediately. And for the love of Dog, don't buy them if you don’t have a plan.
