“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” ~Proverbs 16:9
One of my favorite places to shop is the Home Depot. It’s a DIY paradise! Their current theme is “How doers get more done.” I kinda think of myself as a doer. But if you’re like me, I often find myself biting off more than I can chew. What I thought would be a 3-day project ended up being three weeks and costing much more than my budget.
An ancient Chinese proverb says, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Queen Elizabeth II said, “It is often the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change.” The truth is, those small, incremental steps, over time, often make a huge difference.
I am reminded of Psalm 119:105. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
God’s word gives us just enough light each day to only see the next step. And it’s in that step-by-step process where we are transformed into the image of Christ (Romans 12:2).
Unfortunately, there are literally millions of people who have never been exposed to the Word of God. Of the over 7,000 spoken languages in the world, only 700 have a complete Bible in their language; 1,622 have the New Testament; and another 1,255 have only portions of the Bible. That leaves over 3,750 languages without any portion of God’s Word — not even one verse.
Here’s my “Home Depot” advice — let’s keep following God’s Word and doing the right things — little-by-little, step-by-step — with our families, at our jobs, in our communities, and even in our leisure. And let’s “get things done” by doing what we can to provide the Scriptures to those who have never had it. It is our responsibility to share Gods’ Word so that the “nations” can join us on our journey of faith.
Over time, we’ll see significant change. We’ll be much better people and every tribe, nation, and language will have an opportunity to be transformed by the truth of the Gospel.
