Hope looks like people.

It looks like someone giving their time.
Someone offering encouragement.
Someone believing in another person before they believe in themselves.

That's what our do every day.

❤️ Join us all month as we celebrate the volunteers making lasting Kingdom impact, one life at a time.

My name is Kelly and I started attending The Refuge regularly on Sundays and started meeting the women in the program. I instantly felt the Lord connect my heart to them. I started hanging out at the women’s house and getting to know them even more, and I began opening up about myself too.

I never show up empty-handed. I usually bring my famous pink or purple Rice Krispie treats, but more importantly, I come with a heart full of love and a desire to encourage the women God has brought into my life. The women have become some of my closest friends. They are real and genuine, and their love for the Lord is real and genuine. They encourage me, and I get to encourage them.

I love talking about the Word of God, our relationships with Jesus Christ, healing, and growing in the Lord, and I get to do that with the women in the house. I don’t get that anywhere else. I love seeing the ladies every Sunday, and I cherish every opportunity I have to spend time with them. I pray every single one of them succeeds, continues growing in the Lord, and one day has the opportunity to love and encourage other women the way they've loved and encouraged me. They are such a blessing to my life!💛

Say HELLO to one of the new faces around here- TAYLOR EMENHISER!

For more than 15 years, I was trapped in vigorous cycle of addiction. Alcohol and drugs became the things I turned to in order to numb the pain. Beneath those addictions was a wounded heart carrying years of physical abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse as well as coping with the loss of close family members and friends to unexpected natural causes, addiction, horrific accidents, su***de. I felt broken, ashamed, angry, lost, and confused.

Instead of facing my pain, I ran from it. I searched for relief in temporary pleasures and destructive habits. No matter how much I drank, how many drugs I used, or how many unhealthy choices I made, the emptiness remained. The pain was still there when the high wore off. I was trying to fill a void that only God could fill but I didn't truly know who He was.

For a long time, I believed I was too far gone. I believed the lies that I was damaged beyond repair and that God could never truly love someone like me. The enemy used my past, my addictions, and my failures to keep me chained in guilt, shame, and bo***ge.
I knew in my heart I needed something more, I cried out to the Lord, begging him to save me and He did. As I began seeking Him with an honest heart, something started to change. I realized that God was not wanting to punish me—He was waiting with open arms to receive me. I experienced His love in a way I never had before. Through prayer, Scripture, repentance, and surrender, He began healing wounds that I had carried for most of my life. I got baptized for the first time on December 28th, 2025.

Today, I stand as living proof that God still delivers, heals, restores, and redeems. My past is not my testimony—God's grace is my testimony. The same Jesus who saved me from addiction, despair, and destruction can save anyone who calls upon His name.

I am not who I used to be. I am forgiven. I am redeemed. I am a child of God.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

A life changed by a volunteer doesn't stop there. It often comes full circle as that same person becomes a mentor, changing the life of someone else.

Meet Brandon Butler one of our program graduates who in turn now volunteers and mentors!

💛Inspiration Ministries has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. When I first arrived, I was carrying burdens that felt too heavy to bear. Through God's grace, the support of the leaders, and the encouragement of those around me, I found hope, healing, and renewed purpose. This journey has strengthened my faith, transformed my heart, and reminded me that no matter where we've been, God always has a plan for our lives.

Today, I have the privilege of giving back by volunteering in the same program that helped change my life. Being able to walk alongside others as they begin their own journey is something I never take for granted. I enjoy encouraging them, sharing my experiences, and reminding them that through faith, perseverance, and God's love, transformation is possible. Watching lives change and seeing people grow spiritually and personally is an incredible blessing that fills my heart with gratitude.

Serving others has become one of the most rewarding parts of my life. Every opportunity to volunteer reminds me of how far God has brought me and how faithful He has been every step of the way. I am thankful for everyone who invested in me, and it is an honor to now invest in others. My prayer is that God will continue to use me to bring hope, love, and encouragement to those who need it, just as He did for me.

💛Say Hello to Mike Porter!💛

We're excited to introduce Mike Porter, one of our residents who has now joined the Inspiration Ministries team! 🎉 Mike's journey is a powerful reminder that with God's grace, hard work, and perseverance, new beginnings are possible!

🌟My name is Michael Porter, and I'm from Shipshewana, Indiana. My life changed when I was just ten years old after witnessing violence in my home. Fear took root in my heart, and as I grew older, I turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. Addiction led me down a path of broken relationships, repeated jail time, and hopelessness.

God blessed me with three amazing children and now several grandchildren, but addiction kept me from being the father they deserved. Early last year, after another arrest, I found myself alone in the LaGrange County Jail at the lowest point of my life. Battling depression and suicidal thoughts, I cried out to God and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. In that moment, the hopelessness I had carried for years was replaced with peace and hope.

While I was in jail, God placed John and Elisha Drumm in my life. They shared the Gospel with me, encouraged me, and when I was released, they helped me walk away from my old life. The next day, Chris Short brought me to Inspiration Ministries.

From that day on, everything began to change. Inspiration Ministries became more than a recovery program. It became a place where God used biblical discipleship, accountability, and a caring community to restore my life. Today, I have purpose, responsibility, meaningful work, and hope for the future. God continues to restore my relationships with my children, and I have the privilege of now serving on staff at Inspiration Ministries, helping others find the same hope that was given to me.

One of my favorite verses is 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

If you remember anything from my story, remember this: No one is too broken for God's grace. No addiction is too strong. Jesus is still in the business of rescuing people, restoring families, and changing lives. To God be all the glory.

My name is Mike DiSanto and I serve as one of the pastors at First Christian Church in Kendallville. I am INCREDIBLY thankful to the LORD for the privilege that I have to partner with Inspiration Ministries. I have the blessing of meeting with the men of Inspiration Ministries (IM) on Thursday mornings for Bible Study and I also mentor men who are in the program.

There are so many reasons why I love and deeply enjoy serving the men of IM-here are just a few. First, I am blessed by how real and transparent the men in the program are. They are “real” about their struggles and brokenness-and this is such a refreshment and encouragement to me! It is a tremendous blessing to be around men who are not only transparent BUT have a true desire to want to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18).

Second, it is such a blessing to see God transforming lives for His glory through the programming at IM. This ministry truly has a burden for the least, the last, and the lost.

The men and women of IM are hearing the Glorius Gospel of Grace (1 Cor. 15:3-4) through the IM staff, church partnerships, and mentors and as a result are crossing over from spiritual death to spiritual life (John 5:24)! Hallelujah! This gives me hope as a pastor that our Sovereign and Good God is still working to save people for His glory! Third, the IM staff is such a blessing to work with and partner with. The IM team exemplifies what it means to have servants hearts for the Kingdom as they truly serve the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2). Serving alongside of the IM team for the sake Gospel has filled my heart with great joy and thankfulness.

Lastly, our FCC church family has been incredibly blessed by how the IM men have served our congregation. On countless occasions we have reached out to the IM men to help someone move, to set up for events at our church, and to help in other service projects. The IM men have always come with hearts ready to serve and help.

Our church family has been richly blessed and have expressed to me on many occasions how much they love and appreciate the men of IM! I am looking forward to many more years of partnering with this wonderful ministry and I pray that our LORD would continue to use IM to proclaim the magnificent, life changing, glorious freedom that is found in Jesus Christ alone (John 8:31-36).
