Let’s give it up for the Sons of the American Legion team, led by Team Captain Loyd Vancil! This talented crew has clearly perfected a winning chili recipe.

At this year’s Chili Cook-Off, out of a total of 36 cooking teams, they earned 1st Place bragging rights in the Traditional Chili Division and followed it up with an impressive 2nd Place finish in the Open Division. Even more remarkable, this marks a “two-peat” of sorts—last year, Loyd and his teammates took home 1st Place in Open and 2nd Place in Traditional. When asked about the secret behind their success, Loyd simply smiled and shared that it’s a well-guarded recipe passed down to him years ago.

And the story doesn’t end there. This year marked the very first time prize money was awarded to our cook-off teams, and by winning 1st Place in Traditional, Loyd’s team received a $1,000 prize. In a moment that truly captured the spirit of our community, the Sons of the American Legion team generously donated their entire winnings back to Round Top Family Library. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Every day, our military submits themselves to rigorous training, discipline, and bodily sacrifice, boldly risking their comfort and very lives, so we might know liberty and freedom. Thank you to all who have served or are serving in the military for standing watch on our behalf.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for every man and woman who has toiled and sacrificed much for our freedom and liberty, that we might enjoy comfort and convenience. We ask You to minister to them—restore, renew, and refresh. Open the windows of Heaven and pour out Your blessings upon them. Lord, may we be more aware of Your goodness and kindness to us than the things that are uncomfortable or difficult. We offer ourselves as living sacrifices to You. Give us the courage and boldness to represent Your Kingdom on this Earth, no matter the cost. In Jesus’ name, amen.
